Standing outside his office, Morrison said the scandal that began Sunday led many to stop believing in him. He said he was resigning, effective Jan. 31, to preserve the public confidence in the office of attorney general.
DA asks for special prosecutor in blackmail case

Johnson County commissioners today authorized District Attorney Phill Kline to spend an initial $25,000 to investigate alleged wrongdoing that Kline said involved blackmail and telephone harassment.

Home Invasion thwarted by armed home owner

A Kansas City resident shot at three men who kicked in his front door last night, apparently to commit a home-invasion robbery. The men broke in, pointed a gun at a woman and asked for the resident by name. The resident peeked out a bedroom door, shot at a suspect at the end of the hallway and chased the men out of the house while shooting.
