The 14th annual “City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America” was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. It is based on the FBI’s Sept. 24 crime statistics report. The analysis released Sunday ranked Kansas City as the nation’s 18th most dangerous and Kansas City, Kan., came in 25th. St Louis ranked 2nd in the study.

Deer Hunters helping the needy

The process begins when a hunter brings in a deer and asks for it to be donated towards the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. Then the meat will go to non-profit organizations like the Wesley House in Pittsburg. "It really helps us stretch our dollars when we don't have to purchase meat," the Wesley House executive director said. "We have been averaging about 40 families over the last week or so. Our people really like the meat and look forward to deer season."

3 year old girl raped

Ollie F. Thompson, 17, faces a count of first-degree statutory rape after the girl tested positive for two sexually transmitted diseases, a release from the office of Jackson County Prosecutor Jim Kanatzar said Saturday. The girl had earlier reported the incident to her foster parent.

Sanders taking stand against pornography

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders said he was exploring ways to regulate Erotic City, 8401 Truman Road, which has generated more than 20 calls to the county sheriff’s office this year.
