Another tax hike planned by schools across Kansas
Story
This tax hike plan was initially reported by in the Hawver’s Capitol Report state capitol newsletter August 27. The Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) is seeking another statewide income tax hike. This tax hike would be used to provide more state tax dollars to the 296 Kansas public school districts.

City, County and State worker arrested in Prostitution Sting

Crips Gang Indictment in Wichita
Story
An investigation has led to federal indictments accusing 28 people of operating the Crips street gang as a "racketeering enterprise" that has murdered, robbed and intimidated for years. The indictments, filed in federal court in Wichita, describe a criminal organization that furthered itself with an array of crimes dating back 17 years and including arson, use of drug houses, home loan fraud and interstate prostitution of minors.

Discus champion Al Oerter passes away
Story
Al Oerter, the discus great who won gold medals in four straight Olympics to become one of track and fields biggest stars in the 1950s and ’60s, died Monday in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 71. As a former discus thrower myself, Al provided throwing assistance to me while in High School. I recently spoke to Al in Florida this summer. He was always willing to offer advice. He was a true great Olympian and one of the finest discus throwers in world history. We are saddened by his death.
