McCain and Lieberman provide editorial on Iraq
Story
Whatever the shortcomings of our friends in Iraq, they are no excuse for us to retreat from our enemies like al Qaeda and Iran, who pose a mortal threat to our vital national interests. We must understand that today in Iraq we are fighting and defeating the same terrorist network that attacked on 9/11. As al Qaeda in Iraq continues to be hunted down and rooted out, and the Iraqi Army continues to improve, the U.S. footprint will no doubt adjust. But these adjustments should be left to the discretion of Gen. Petraeus, not forced on our troops by politicians in Washington with a 6,000-mile congressional screwdriver, and, perhaps, an eye on the 2008 election.

William F. Buckley: World War IV
Story
The Islamists have: A potential access to weapons of mass destruction that could devastate Western life. A religious appeal that provides deeper resonance and greater staying power than the artificial ideologies of fascism or communism. An impressively conceptualized, funded and organized institutional machinery that successfully builds credibility, goodwill and electoral success. An ideology capable of appealing to Muslims of every size and shape. Those critics who insist that it is only a small war-party faction of the Islamists that we have to fear might have been asked a generation ago if it was not merely a small number of Germans and Russians we were properly exercised about. Sixty million people were dead after that misreckoning.

Story
Pope Benedict XVI called attention to the demographic implosion in Europe for a second time on his pastoral visit to Austria. "Europe has become child-poor: we want everything for ourselves, and place little trust in the future," he told the assembled crowd. On Friday, Benedict addressed political leaders in the nation pointing to the fact that Europe "demographically, is rapidly aging." At that meeting, he also urged legal protection for unborn children. "The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself," he said. "This is true of life from the moment of conception until its natural end. Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right - it is the very opposite."

Story
Thomas Jefferson said the Constitution built a wall of protection for religion. Thanks to the ACLU and its allies, this wall got "flipped" from one meant to protect the Church from the government to a wall of imprisonment and censorship used against the Church. California Lutheran High School has faith-based criteria for admission and behavior of students. When two female students violated the school's code by reportedly engaging in homosexual behavior, the school suspended them. But rather than accepting the consequences for their children's alleged behavior and acknowledging the school's right to make decisions consistent with its beliefs, the parents responded with a lawsuit, claiming "sexual orientation" discrimination.
