Kansas state Sen. Nick Jordan of Shawnee said Tuesday that he would run for Congress next year, setting up a likely challenge to Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore. Overland Park wants to grow to County Line

Overland Park is moving forward with the largest territorial expansion in its 47-year history. Late Monday night, the City Council unanimously agreed to a plan that would expand the city’s boundaries by 15 square miles, pushing the city limit south of 199th Street toward the Johnson County line.
Lawrence wants to raise taxes - again

Lawrence city commissioners have said they need between $5 million and $6 million per year to seriously tackle street maintenance, sidewalk projects and infrastructure improvements. Commissioners have been told by city staff that there are essentially only two ways to raise that kind of coin: A sales tax increase or a property tax increase.
Leavenworth Citizens uneasy about Gitmo Prisoners

"The prison holds some of the world's most dangerous terrorists from around the globe," said Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), whose district sits across the Missouri River from the Ft. Leavenworth prison. "They have threatened Americans and in some instances they have killed Americans. Suspect tries to shoot Police Officer during struggle

Kansas City police shot a man today during a struggle after he ran from officers who were trying to arrest him at the downtown bus station. Two officers were taken to the hospital as well after being injured by the assailant.
Topeka to raise taxes

The increase in taxes will go to programs like: $300,000 for the Topeka Performing Arts Center; $167,000 for various youth and social service grants; $102,771 for the Community Resource Council; $100,000 for Project Heath Access; $100,000 for the Topeka Cemetery Association; $100,000 for Downtown Topeka Inc.; $78,000 for Housing and Credit Counseling; $55,000 for the Shawnee County Family Resource Center; $41,545 for Success By Six; and $15,000 for Keep America Beautiful.
Congressman Moran to help KBI fight Methamphetamine

Rep. Jerry Moran (R-KS) and officials from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation held a news conference to announce a proposal before Congress that would provide $150,000 to stop imported meth, and $75,000 to purchase new bullet-proof vests for KBI agents. The funding has been approved by the House and will be considered by the Senate. “The meth problem is far from being solved,” Moran said. “Methamphetamine is a fact of life in Kansas that often destroys communities, including many rural communities that I represent.”
