Politically influential abortionist George Tiller was arraigned yesterday on 19 criminal misdemeanor charges, entering a "not guilty" plea ahead of a trial scheduled for later this month.
KU Religion Professor – Religion connected to low self-esteem

The Kansas University professor’s eighth book, “When Religion is an Addiction,” may become his most controversial. Robert Minor doesn’t profess to be a psychologist, so he doesn’t the exact cause of the religious addiction. But he thinks it is connected to low self-esteem issues, because some fundamental Christians believe they “deserve eternal child abuse from a heavenly father,” and that “you can only be OK if somebody else (God) likes you,” he says. Minor has been a professor of religious studies at KU since 1977. His areas of study and teaching include religions of south Asia, sexuality and religion and gender. His previous books include “Scared Straight” and “Gay and Healthy in a Sick Society.”

Merriam wants to Consolidate Fire Services

The City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing staff and the city attorney to draft a resolution that would combine the Merriam Fire Department with District 2. The merger could take place next year. This is a smart move to reduce spending and enhance operational capabilities. Kudos to the city of Merriam!

Area Church gives to Greensburg Tornado Victims

When the tornado hit Greensburg, Kan., it decimated most of the town, including one of the town’s most essential assets — its fire station.
The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave., has raised over $50,000 to purchase the truck and give it to Greensburg. Yes, folks this wasn’t the government. It was Americans raising money for other Americans and giving. That’s what makes the country great!
