Missouri places restrictions on Abortion providers

Gov. Matt Blunt is signing legislation placing more abortion clinics under government oversight by classifying them as ambulatory surgical centers. Planned Parenthood claims the law could force it to spend more than $1 million to remodel some of its buildings. The bill also bars people affiliated with abortion providers from teaching or supplying materials for sex education courses. The legislation allows schools to offer abstinence-only programs. It also puts into law an existing grant program for pregnancy centers that encourage women to give birth instead of have abortions.

Registered Sex Offender on parole arrested again

A man convicted of a sex offense against a child and released from prison 2 ½ months ago was arrested Wednesday for allegedly masturbating near a neighborhood Fourth of July party. The witnesses called police, who stopped Colston as he walked down the street. According to court records, he told police he “has a problem with masturbating and masturbates in public three to four times a week” in the neighborhoods near where he was arrested.

Illinois police say they caught Fox Sports broadcaster and former Chief Bill Maas with "a .22-caliber revolver, 5 grams of suspected marijuana, 6 grams of suspected cocaine and 28 pills of Ecstasy," the AP reports. He was arrested after a traffic stop Friday; authorities say he consented to the search.

Robert Sturm Jr. was known for his people skills

Rob Sturm was a member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department for 16 years. During his tenure he worked in the jail, in 911 communications and with the hostage negotiation unit. While working in communications, Laura Sturm said, he used his people skills to calm a dangerous situation. “He talked a man out of his house after a long, long time, and he convinced him to put his gun aside, and no one was hurt,” she said. “He had a good way of convincing people to see his point of view and show them right from wrong.” Lt. Sturm will be missed by all.
