Governors Beware: Cap and Trade will Squeeze Your Budget
The current recession has caused many states to deplete their rainy day funds, and if politicians in Washington have anything to say, governors could see their deficits grow even further. The Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill will prolong and exacerbate the recession and stifle any chance of a quicker economic recovery. The goal of cap and trade is to drive up energy prices so high people will use less energy, but even after reduced consumption, people still need to drive their cars and turn on their lights at home. All cap and trade does is force people to spend more on their energy bills. These higher energy prices result in a slower economy, which means less production, higher unemployment and reduced income. This is bad news for states. The increase in state’s deficits that result from the Waxman-Markey legislation will force painful cuts in state services and/or tax increases. Economists at The Heritage Foundation found that the average impact on operating surpluses (deficits) at the state and local level is a decrease of $ 9.3 billion dollars (in 2009 inflation adjusted dollars) between 2012 -2035.

Bishop Rebukes County Commissioner on Non-Negotiables
The about-face on homosexual “marriage” accomplished by Thomas Suozzi, a Catholic who serves as the executive of Nassau County, New York, has drawn a strong rebuke from Bishop William Murphy. Calling on Suozzi and all Catholics to remain faithful to Church teaching, the New York prelate emphasized that such teachings are “non-negotiable,” and that only true adherence to the Lord will bring real “freedom, justice, joy and peace.”

Hav-a-Tampa cigars closing Tampa plant
Tampa will lose part of its cigar heritage in August when Hav-A-Tampa shuts its factory near Seffner and lays off about 495 employees, closing a factory that has been operating since 1902. The company announced the closing today. However, the company attributed much of its trouble to the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, a federal program that provides health insurance to low-income children. It is funded, in part, by a new federal tax on cigars and cigarettes. McKenzie couldn't say how much sales of Hav-A-Tampa cigars had fallen off, but the numbers have dropped significantly, he said.
Previously, federal excise taxes on cigars were limited to no more than a nickel, said Norman Sharp, president of the Cigar Association of America trade group. The tax increase, which took effect April 1, raises the maximum tax on cigars to about 40 cents, Sharp said.

The White House press office told CNSNews.com that to confirm every round of golf played by the president since he took office would take “hours” because the only records kept are those sent to the media through e-mails that are not posted on the White House Web site because they are for media planning only. Despite ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, ongoing violence in Iran, and an economy that Obama has described as the worst since the Great Depression, the president has golfed multiple times in the past several weeks--on April 26, May 16, May 25, May 31, June 7, June 9, June 14 and June 21. Obama’s golf outings have generated favorable reports from the media, in contrast to his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Miraculously, Chase survived the surgery and walked out of the hospital only a few weeks after the accident that had broken his skull. “It was shortly after we got to the rehab hospital and I just saw these people that work there just amazed,” Paula told The Wichita Eagle. The doctors were unable to explain the recovery, Chase’s parents added.
To members of the Kear family, the reason is clear. “It was a miracle,” Paula told CNA. “Absolutely a miracle.” Chase has made a nearly-full recovery and is currently working a summer job and planning to coach pole-vaulting. Devotion to Fr. Kapuan is strong in the Diocese of Wichita, whose website includes information about his case for canonization.

Gospel according to St. Luke 1:57-66,80
57 Now Elizabeth's full time of being delivered was come, and she brought forth a son. 58 And her neighbours and kinsfolks heard that the Lord had showed his great mercy towards her, and they congratulated with her. 59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him by his father's name Zachary. 60 And his mother answering, said: Not so; but he shall be called John. 61 And they said to her: There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63 And demanding a writing table, he wrote, saying: John is his name. And they all wondered. 64 And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. 65 And fear came upon all their neighbours; and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of Judea. 66 And all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart, saying: What an one, think ye, shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. 80 And the child grew, and was strengthened in spirit; and was in the deserts until the day of his manifestation to Israel.

By Sheriff (Ret) Currie Myers,
Marine War Hero to take on Dennis Moore
In this Friday’s commentary TFK will focus on the new candidate for Congress running against Dennis Moore. TKF is proud to feature Republican Candidate for the 3rd District in Kansas, SSgt Daniel Gilyeat, USMC. And he is from get this, Kansas City, Kansas! Are you ready for a conservative war hero from Kansas City, Kansas, Dennis?
Video 1
Video 2
Daniel Gilyeat always wanted a better life for himself, so he thought defending his country and serving in the US Marine Corps would give him just that. Daniel was called up for duty and went over to Iraq to serve our country. His was expecting a gruesome and dangerous tour, but came home safe and was excited to return to his family.
The Marines asked Daniel if he wanted to go back to Iraq for a second tour, this was not mandatory. Daniel loved the Marines and so he went.
Then on July 3rd 2003 while out on a mission a bomb hit his truck and he suffered major injuries. His M-16 rifle he carried between his legs was in splinters and his left leg was ripped from his body. Because of the great lose of blood, Daniel almost died twice on his way to the military hospital. He was discharged and sent home. 27 days after Daniel suffered these injuries he was up and around with his prosthetic leg. He knew he had to be positive and not let this ruin his life. He would go to visit other wounded soldiers and talk with their families inspiring them and encouraging them.
Daniel only wanted the best for his family and was prepared to do anything it took to do that, even if it meant risking his life in Iraq. Daniel is now determined to raise his children and inspire others to overcome tragedy. His home is in disrepair and with his disability he has done everything he can to make this tiny house work for his family. The house isn't wheelchair accessible and Daniel can only wear his prosthetic leg for a few hours during the day until it becomes sore and then he has to rely on his wheelchair. This makes it nearly impossible for him to get around, all the floors are uneven and the doors are way to small to get through. He has fallen many times in the bathroom and on his front porch since there isn't a ramp. In the basement they have a washer and dryer. To get to the basement you have to open a latched door on the floor and walk down old wooden stairs. This home is dangerous for any child to walk down and even more so for Daniel having to hop on one leg up and down the stairs is nearly impossible.
This is not a sad story but one of hope and inspiration. Asking Daniel if he would go and fight for his country again, there was no pause or hesitation, it was an immediate YES. He knows his strength and positive attitude is the reason this has happened to him. Daniel gives so much of himself to his neighbors and everyone around him it is hard to believe how positive he is. He wants the best for his kids and was willing to sacrifice his life for them.
