KC Star cuts staff due to continued lost revenue!
Story
The McClatchy Co., owner of The Kansas City Star and the third largest newspaper publisher, said today the company will reduce its workforce by 1,400 positions nationwide. The move — affecting about 10 percent of the company’s workforce — comes as part of a restructuring plan to “manage through today’s difficult advertising market,” the company said in a release. The Star’s reductions include about 120 full-time equivalent positions. Reductions will occur in every division.

Does the Kansas City Star really care about fiscal responsibility?
Story
The topic of this editorial is welcome, but why is the Star writing an editorial about fiscal responsibility when they support most tax increases, and do such little investigative reporting about waste of tax dollars? Why does the Star do so little to promote accountability in government? In Kansas legislative races, will the Star use fiscal vote ratings of legislators as compiled by the Kansas Taxpayers Network in their endorsements to show which legislators vote consistently for higher taxes? Has fiscal voting and responsibility ever been used as a criterion by the Star in their political endorsements?

Illegal Abortions Case Continued for 4th Time
Story
George Tiller was originally scheduled to stand trial on 19 charges of violating Kansas' abortion laws on August 17, 2007. That trial has now been rescheduled – for the 4th time. "We have seen capital murder cases in Kansas, from arrest to sentencing, take place in less time," said Troy Newman, president of an anti-abortion group he calls Operation Rescue. "Justice delayed is justice denied. Judge Owens and the attorney general's office need to get of the dime and get on with the case in the interests of justice."

Arguments Conclude in Bizarre Case of Abortion Giant Suing Kansas Prosecutor
Story
Kansas district attorney Phill Kline defended himself yesterday before the Kansas Supreme Court in a lawsuit brought against him by Planned Parenthood - the defendants in a criminal investigation by Kline's office for violating the state's abortion laws. "It's the only case we've ever seen of in the entire nation, where the criminal defendant gets to sue the prosecutor," Kline told LifeSiteNews, "in a case in which every judge has now probable cause to believe the defendant has committed crimes and they are suing me personally - for prosecuting them!"

Editorial: “Public should be in the know”
Story
What we question is why the Kansas Supreme Court ever closed the Planned Parenthood hearings and sealed the records of the proceedings. There is nothing within this case that warrants secrecy. This case should have been open to the public from the beginning. This is a gross infraction on the public’s right to know. It makes us wonder what had been going on why these proceedings were kept secret? We know it wasn’t to protect patient privacy because there’s no identification of patients in this lawsuit. The court was wrong to keep these proceedings from the public.
