Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown introduced the new resolution at the request of Planned Parenthood, which organization helped her draft the proposal. Archbisop Rigali of Philadelphia asked “people of good will” to join him in “rejecting the divisive and erroneous label that Philadelphia City Council has forced upon the citizens of Philadelphia today.” He continued, “I reject the resolution because so many heroic efforts are made continually to safeguard unborn children from the evil of abortion, to protect vulnerable children and families and to defend all women and men in crisis.”

Tony Blair has discussed becoming a Roman Catholic deacon when he quits office. The revelation comes as he prepares to meet the Pope amid speculation that he will use the audience in the Vatican to announce his conversion. Deacons are just below priests in the Catholic hierarchy and have the right to administer certain sacraments and wear a special white robe known as a dalmatic.

Rome Re-discovered
http://www.romereborn.virginia.edu/
Computer experts on Monday unveiled a digital reproduction of ancient Rome as it appeared at the peak of its power in A.D. 320—what they called the largest and most complete simulation of a historic city ever created. At the height of its power, Rome fell when the government and their citizens began to embrace hedonism, political corruption, military de-emphasis, and after allowing non-Romans citizens to do menial labor (Visigoths). As a result, the Visigoths sacked Rome and there were only a limited number of soldiers that was able to repeal borders and defend her. Sound familiar America?

http://constitutionallyright.com/2007/06/05/aclu-pushing-for-state-funded-abortions/
The same organization that considers school vouchers unconstitutional because parents may use those vouchers (i.e. tax rebates) for Catholic schools, is now fighting another battle. Under the premise of ‘right to privacy’ the ACLU is arguing Medicaid should pay for abortions when the mother’s health (not life) is in jeopardy.

In Defense of the 2nd Amendment

Average Americans have always made up the front line against crime. Through programs like Neighborhood Watch and Amber Alert, we are stopping and catching criminals daily. Normal people tackled "shoe bomber" Richard Reid as he was trying to blow up an airliner. It was a truck driver who found the D.C. snipers. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that civilians use firearms to prevent at least a half million crimes annually.

Paris, Lindsey and A-Rod – The media’s fixation on worthless news

And the media are certainly partly to blame for Americans' fixation on celebrity gossip. A study by PC World, a computer magazine, tracked five news stories circulating on the Internet in late March to see how much attention the media gave to each story. A one-day snapshot found that the death of model Anna Nicole Smith was the most talked about media event of the day, receiving 691,000 news story mentions, compared with 69,000 references to the Scooter Libby perjury trial verdict and just 53,000 references to the announcement of the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_6111913
At least a dozen teachers from Mexico are expected to arrive in Utah this August to help with the state's growing population of English language learners and its teacher shortage. Human resource representatives from Granite, Davis, Tooele and Salt Lake school districts traveled to Mexico City last week to meet with 50 preselected applicants seeking teaching positions in Utah. The job placements were created by an agreement forged by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. during his 2005 visit to Mexico. The arrangement is also intended to develop a better understanding of both countries' educational systems, history and culture.
