Americans Oppose Obama Policies
Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn't be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

Rebellion in America’s Heartland
"For every action," Isaac Newton famously said, "there is an equal and opposite reaction." And right now the Obama administration’s actions – massively expanding government, socializing entire industries, plunging the nation into ruinous debt, snubbing allies while appeasing adversaries – are being met by a massive reaction in America's heartland. This growing backlash on the part of outraged citizens, including an extraordinary rebellion by state legislators unprecedented in modern times.

Obama Apology Tour Continues – This time to the Muslim World
Speaking in Cairo, Egypt, today, President Barack Obama told the Muslim world that in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks the United States sometimes acted “contrary to our traditions and our ideals.” He then specifically alluded to what he called “torture” and the prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Krauthammer on Obama’s speech: “Abstract, vapid, and self-absorbed”
Charles Krauthammer calls Obama’s Egyptian speech weak and pathetic. He also indicates that Obama’s remarks on Iran was one of the worse remarks ever made by an American President on the subject.

Now it can be told: Obama has “Muslim roots”
During a conference call in preparation for President Obama’s trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said “the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to — or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world — you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father — obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.”… Since the election, however, with the threat of the rumors at least somewhat abated, the White House has been increasingly forthcoming about the president’s roots. Especially when reaching out to the Muslim world. In his April 6 address to the Turkish Parliament, President Obama referenced how many “Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim majority country. I know, because I am one of them.”

Barack Obama's Top 10 Apologies
A common theme that runs through President Obama's statements is the idea the United States must atone for its past policies, whether it is America's application of the war against Islamist terrorism or its overall foreign policy. At the core of this message is the concept that the U.S. is a flawed nation that must seek redemption by apologizing for its past "sins." On several occasions, President Obama has sought to apologize for the actions of his own country when addressing a foreign audience--including seven of the 10 apologies listed below. The President has already apologized for his country to nearly 3 billion people across Europe, the Muslim world, and the Americas. The Obama Administration's strategy of unconditional engagement with America's enemies combined with a relentless penchant for apology-making is a dangerous recipe for failure. The overall effect of this approach has been to weaken American power on the world stage rather than strengthen it.

To the Media, Some Murders Matter More Than Others
At the time of this writing, there are nearly 7,000 references to "George Tiller" in Google News. There are under 500 for "William Long." George Tiller, of course, was the Kansas abortion doctor murdered Sunday morning by a man who allegedly had political and religious motives. William Long was the 23-year-old military recruiter murdered Monday morning by a man who allegedly had political and religious motives. Are there 14 times more stories about George Tiller in Google News right now because Tiller's murder occurred approximately 24 hours before Long's? Will there be approximately 7,000 references to William Long in Google News 24 hours from now? I'm not holding my breath.

Rasmussen: 67% of voters oppose GM bailout
A new poll shows that a full 67 percent of U.S. voters oppose the Obama administration's plan to bail out General Motors with nearly $50 billion – and 51 percent of all Americans say they would rather buy a car from Ford because it did not take a government bailout.

Chavez says "Comrade" Obama more left-wing
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday that he and Cuban ally Fidel Castro risk being more conservative than U.S. President Barack Obama as Washington prepares to take control of General Motors Corp. "Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right," Chavez said.

Chinese Students Laugh and Mock US Treasury Secretary
U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday reaffirmed his faith in a strong dollar and reassured the Chinese government that its huge holdings of dollar-denominated assets are safe. "We believe in a strong dollar," Geithner said in a question-and-answer session after a speech to students at Peking University. "Chinese financial assets are very safe," Geithner said. His response drew laughter from the audience.

State moves to restrict Catholics in politics
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport in Connecticut has filed a federal lawsuit following assertions by a state official that rallying church members at the Capitol in Hartford constitutes a violation of lobbying law. "Following the surprise introduction of Bill 1098," said Diocese Bishop William E. Lori in a statement, "a proposal that singled out Catholic parishes and would have forced them to reorganize contrary to church law and the First Amendment, our diocese responded in the most natural, spontaneous, and frankly, American, of ways: we alerted our membership – in person and through our website; we encouraged them to exercise their free speech by contacting their elected representatives; and we organized a rally at the State Capitol. How can this possibly be called lobbying?"

Islamic Terrorist Kill US Soldiers in Little Rock
A man with "political and religious motives" killed a soldier just out of basic training and wounded another Monday in a targeted attack on a military recruiting center, police said. The shootings were not believed to be part of a broader scheme. A police report based on an interview with the suspect says Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, told police he observed two soldiers in uniform, drove up to the recruiting center and started shooting. The two soldiers who were shot had completed basic training within the past two weeks and were not regular recruiters, said Lt. Col. Thomas F. Artis of the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion, which oversees the Little Rock office. Muhammad had converted to Islam at some point in his life and interviews with police show he "probably had political and religious motives for the attack," the police chief said. Muhammad, previously known as Carlos Bledsoe, was not part of a larger group nor was his attack part of a larger conspiracy, Thomas said. "We believe that it's associated with his disagreement over the military operations," the police chief said.

The Emergence of President Obama's Muslim Roots
ABC News' Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller report: The other day we heard a comment from a White House aide that never would have been uttered during the primaries or general election campaign. During a conference call in preparation for President Obama's trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said "the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to -- or before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world -- you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father -- obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago."

White House ‘comfortable’ with controversial faith-based council appointee
The White House spokesman has said that President Obama is “comfortable” with the makeup of his faith-based advisory council despite protests alleging anti-Catholic bigotry from one appointee who characterized Pope Benedict as a “discredited leader” and called the Knights of Columbus “foot soldiers” in an “army of oppression.”

Obama’s 31 year old appointee in charge of ruining capitalism
But first I want to spend some time on GM, and sometimes there's a story that is so good that you just have to read it verbatim. Usually you don't say that coming out of the New York Times, but this story is so good that I have to read it verbatim. Dateline Washington. It's not every 31 year old in a first government job that finds himself dismantling General Motors and rewriting the rules of American capitalism, but that in short is a job description for Brian Deese, a not quite graduate of Yale Law School.

Rush Tells Sean That Obama Is Destroying America
Rush Limbaugh told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday night that he wants Barack Obama to fail because, like Osama bin Laden, the president is trying to destroy America.

Dick Morris - The Abject Failure of Obamanomics
Economists call it de-leveraging. By the start of the recession, the debt American households owe had risen from 70 percent of their annual income in 1995 to 140 percent (excluding mortgages). Now it is on its way back down again. And, eventually, that will lead to a real recovery — if Obama doesn't wreck the currency and bring on mega-inflation before then (but he probably will).

White House won't give Obama Date Night Cost
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is declining to say what it cost for President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, to eat dinner and take in a play in New York over the weekend. Asked if he would outline the costs, Gibbs said Monday the Obamas would have preferred using a commercial airline shuttle to New York and back but the Secret Service would not allow such unprotected travel.

Obama makes June Official LGBT Pride Month
Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.

OMG: Obama says Iran's can have the Bomb!
President Barack Obama reiterated that Iran may have some right to nuclear energy _ provided it takes steps to prove its aspirations are peaceful. "Without going into specifics, what I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations. On the other hand, the international community has a very real interest in preventing a nuclear arms race in the region," Obama said.

Howard Dean Says Sotomayor's Race Comment Taken Out of Context--Then Admits He Doesn't Know the Context
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told CNSNews.com yesterday that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor's comment that "a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life" has been taken out of context by critics. Then he immediately conceded that he himself had not actually read the full context of the speech in which Sotomayor made the comment.

Obama Orders US Marshals to protect abortion clinics
Following the shooting of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller on Sunday, the Obama administration is stepping up security for abortion centers across the country. The move will be taken even though the shooting was carried out by a vigilante unaffiliated with the pro-life movement. Attorney General Eric H. Holder has given the order for the U.S. Marshals Service to begin protecting certain abortion businesses and abortion practitioners.

Brownback on Gitmo
Sam Brownback held a conference call for bloggers about his recent trip to the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and the effort of the Obama administration to close it. Brownback called it one of the nicest prisons he’s ever seen, and one uniquely designed for its mission. He called it a “well-run, professional” prison and that the detainees are getting very humane treatment. Brownback said, “I don’t know where you could duplicate this facility,” and that is the crux of his concern.

Why climate models are wrong
While there are a number of other potentially serious problems with climate model predictions, the mix-up between cause and effect when studying cloud behavior, by itself, has the potential to mostly deflate all predictions of substantial global warming. It is only a matter of time before others in the climate research community realize this, too.

NBC Anchor Bows to Obama! Incredible!
When I first saw it, I thought, “Nah. Brian Williams must have looked down. Americans don’t bow to their political leaders, and especially not the American media.” Wrong!

Israeli People Start Campaign Against Obama
The Jewish National Front, which is backing the protests, said in a statement: "We decided to launch a campaign against the president of the United States and to say that Barack Hussein Obama is bad for the Jews." "From the moment that he entered the White House, we have been feeling anti-Semitism and hatred toward Israel," the statement continued. "We have a number of plans, among which are demonstrations in the US and protests in front of the consulate and homes of the ambassadors."

TKF Special Report

This week TKF will focus on Congressman Todd Tiahrt of Wichita, candidate for US Senator:

American Conservative Union Honors Tiahrt Voting Record:
Receives 95% conservative rating

The American Conservative Union (ACU) has awarded Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) the 2008 ACU Ratings of Congress Award for his commitment to America’s core principles and steadfast commitment to our nation’s Constitution during the 110th Congress. Tiahrt was ranked as the most conservative member of the Kansas Congressional Delegation receiving a 95 percent lifetime conservative rating.

“The American Conservative Union has presented the 2008 ACU Ratings of Congress Award to Congressman Tiahrt for his support of conservative principles on a wide range of issues,” said ACU Chairman David A. Keene. “Congressman Tiahrt’s lifetime rating of 95.21 over 14 years of service reflects a consistent record and a member of Congress who grass roots conservatives can turn to for leadership.”

Among principled votes that gave Tiahrt the highest conservative rating in the Kansas delegation was his vote against further government expansion of SCHIP. Tiahrt also voted against the 90 percent tax on individual incomes.

ACU has rated every member of the House and Senate since 1971. For the Second Session of the 110th Congress (2008), the ACU rated 25 votes in the House including: illegal immigration, domestic energy production, missile defense, alternative minimum tax, 2nd amendment rights, “stimulus” spending bill, and all of the bailout votes.

Congratulations to Congressman Tiahrt!

Cashill: Sebelius Must Share Blame for Tiller Murder
On Sunday morning, regrettably, a kind of crude frontier justice caught up with late abortionist George Tiller. He was shot and killed in the foyer of his Wichita church. For the left, Scott Roeder, the accused killer, had alchemized the unholy dross of a corrupt late term abortionist into martyr’s gold. In the entirely apt words of Dan McLaughlin, "Even before anything was known about Roeder, the left side of the blogosphere reacted to Dr. Tiller's murder as if it was Christmas morning and they just got a pony.” If so, then Santa Claus was none other than Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

Another Abortionist to take over Tiller Clinic
Nebraska-based abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart will take over the Wichita, Kansas abortion center formerly run by slain late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. Carhart is most well known for his role in a Supreme Court case concerning a ban on partial-birth abortions. When Nebraska lawmakers passed a ban on the partial-birth abortion procedure, which most Americans oppose, Carhart filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the ban in court. Carhart and Tiller are longtime friends and associates and Carhart told the Nebraska State Paper that he would make sure late-term abortions continue at Tiller's abortion center, which his closed this week following his shooting death on Sunday. In his comments, Carhart called pro-life advocates "terrorists" and said Tiller's death was "a declaration of war" from the majority of Americans who take a pro-life position on abortion. He called pro-life Americans "fundamentalist terrorists . . . no different from al-Qaida, the Taliban or any of them." Carhart has had troubles of his own, such as when he re-opened his Bellevue, Nebraska abortion center which hadn't passed a city code inspection. He was also accused of putting women's health at risk by reopening without the inspection and broke the law by operating the abortion center without an occupancy permit he needed to do so.

KDHE refuses to back Parkinson claim on Planned Parenthood
Gov. Mark Parkinson line-item vetoed a provision of the budget bill last week that would have reprioritized federal funds earmarked for comprehensive family planning, sending money to community health facilities rather than to Planned Parenthood, which operates four clinics in Kansas, including one clinic that performs abortions and is under investigation. Parkinson claimed allowing the provision to stand would violate Title X of the Public Service Act. However, the state Department of Health and Environment refused Thursday to agree. The amendment’s sponsor, Sen. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, had asked the research department for clarification on the issue. Huelskamp noted that states have substantial latitude in deciding how the Title X funds are utilized and that Parkinson’s claim that the funds are “an entitlement” is not truthful.

Missouri governor billing flights to other state offices
The cost of a flight to tour a battery plant: $793. A trip to the Missouri-Kansas basketball game: $1,295. A two-day fly-around to promote a health-care proposal: $3,740. The cost to Gov. Jay Nixon (D-MO) gubernatorial budget: $0. Missouri’s governor has been charging the cost of his airplane travel to other government agencies, taking a small bite out of their budgets at the very time his administration has been urging departments to hold down their own expenses because of slumping state tax revenues.

Another Tax Funded Arena Nearly Complete
Independence is six months away from opening a $68 million arena that is in direct competition with the much larger Sprint Center as well as Kemper Arena, Municipal Auditorium, Bartle Hall and a myriad of smaller music halls and college event centers in the Kansas City area. In addition the city is partnering with an Arizona operator that in recent years has had a spotty track record. Global Entertainment Corp. of Phoenix has lost contracts to manage similar arenas in January in Rio Rancho, N.M., and in 2007 in Youngstown, Ohio and now is in hot water at a facility in Wenatchee, Wash. “This is a city-owned facility, with the community improvement district covering the debt,” said Independence City Manager Robert Heacock. “The operator of this facility doesn’t have to carry the debt.” Heacock added that the revenues generated by the community improvement district, which began collecting the surcharge last summer, are meeting expectations. The city has the authority to raise the surcharge up to 1 cent, should revenues drop below the amount needed to repay the bond. The new complex, which includes the arena and a community ice rink, is rapidly taking shape and is expected to host its first event in November. The arena will seat 5,800 people for hockey and up to 8,000 for concerts.

Small Kansas Town to get $4.4 million in Pork
The southwest Kansas town of Greensburg with less than 2,000 residents will receive $4.4 million in federal grants to help repair streets and build a new business park. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Division says the grants are made through a program designed to make sure rural communities have essential services. A tornado in May 2007 killed 11 people in Greensburg, about 110 miles west of Wichita.

Another Tax Increase: Higher sewer rates proposed in JOCO
Johnson County residents could pay higher sewer charges next year, and those rates could have an adverse effect on Olathe wastewater customers. Johnson County Wastewater is proposing new rates for consumers in 2010.

Godsey: KC Consultant a waste of Taxpayers Money
In a year when money is tight and city budget cuts are almost certain to take police officers off the street, Kansas City is hiring yet another expensive consultant. The city has set aside almost $300,000 to pay an outside consultant to more efficiently manage publicly-financed construction projects. The mayor and city council members have been complaining for some time that city projects need to be completed faster. They are absolutely right. But this will be the second consultant hired by the city to deal with the same lingering problem. The first consultant was paid $15 million and was supposed to train the city staff to run an efficient capital improvements program. There is no evidence that they succeeded. By hiring this consultant, the city is wasting money that is needed elsewhere. And for what reason? Because the city manager and his staff -- those who should be managing these construction projects -- cannot.

Oklahoma Joes Voted One of Best in Nation
Anthony Bourdain, world-renowned chef, host of the Travel Channel’s "No Reservations" and author of "Kitchen Confidential," has named Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ restaurant as one of his “13 Places to Eat Before You Die”. Bourdain dished up the KC honor in a story in the June issue of Men’s Health Magazine in an "Eat Like a Man" series of articles. Oklahoma Joe’s opened in a gas station at 47th & Mission in 1996 and in 2005 opened another restaurant at 119th & Strang Line Road in Olathe.

Maranatha Displays Great Sportsmanship After State Track Championship
Like so many other athletes, the Maranatha Academy girls 3,200-meter relay members climbed to the top of the awards stand on Saturday at the track and field state championships at Cessna Stadium, received their first-place medals and were recognized as state champions. It was the moments that followed — nearly lost amid the distraction of other races and events, announcements and award presentations — when perhaps the most heartwarming story of the state meet unfolded. As the other medalists in the Class 2A 3,200 relay left the awards stand, Maranatha senior Ali Bailey, juniors Bethany Zarda and Mallory Keith and freshman Christa Courtney huddled together. They gazed at their gold medals, had a quick heart-to-heart and descended the stairs back down to the infield. A minute later, they gave their medals away. “As a team we all feel like we ran our hardest, we ran as a team, but we did not deserve first place,” Bailey said. “Second place was ours, and the only right thing to do was give them what they deserve.”

“If you don't read the KC Star you are uninformed, if you do read the KC Star you are misinformed.”

From Proverbs 16:12
The king takes delight in honest lips, and the man who speaks what is right he loves.

Gospel According to St. Mark 12:28-34

28 And there came one of the scribes that had heard them reasoning together, and seeing that he had answered them well, asked him which was the first commandment of all. 29 And Jesus answered him: The first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord thy God is one God. 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength. This is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like to it: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said to him: Well, Master, thou hast said in truth, that there is one God, and there is no other besides him. 33 And that he should be loved with the whole heart, and with the whole understanding, and with the whole soul, and with the whole strength; and to love one's neighbour as one's self, is a greater thing than all holocausts and sacrifices. 34 And Jesus seeing that he had answered wisely, said to him: Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

Two Standards In The Media's World Of Hate

When a right-wing Christian vigilante kills, millions of fingers pull the trigger. When a left-wing Muslim vigilante kills, he kills alone.

These are the instantly ossifying narratives in the Sunday shooting death of late-term abortion provider George Tiller of Kansas vs. the Monday shootings of two Arkansas military recruiters.

Tiller's suspected murderer, Scott Roeder, is white, Christian, anti-government and anti-abortion. The gunman in the military recruitment center attack, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, is black, a Muslim convert, anti-military and anti-American.

Both crimes are despicable, cowardly acts of domestic terrorism. But the disparate treatment of the two brutal cases by both the White House and the media is striking. President Obama issued a statement condemning "heinous acts of violence" within hours of Tiller's death. The Justice Department issued its own statement and sent federal marshals to protect abortion clinics.

News anchors and headline writers abandoned all qualms about labeling the gunman a terrorist. An almost gleeful excess of mainstream commentary poured forth on the climate of hate and fear created by conservative talk radio, blogs and Fox News in reporting Tiller's activities.

By contrast, Obama was silent about the military recruiter attacks that left 24-year-old Pvt. William Long dead and 18-year-old Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula gravely wounded. On Tuesday afternoon — more than 24 hours after the attack on the military recruitment center in Little Rock, Ark. — Obama held a press conference to announce his pick for Army secretary. It would have been exactly the right moment to express condolences for the families of the targeted Army recruiters and to condemn heinous acts of violence against our troops.

But Obama said nothing. The Justice Department was mum. And so were the legions of finger-pointing pundits happily convicting the pro-life movement and every right-leaning writer on the planet of contributing to the murder of Tiller.

Obama's omission, it should be noted, comes just a few weeks after he failed to mention the Bronx jihadi plot to bomb synagogues and a National Guard air base during his speech on homeland security.

Why the silence? Politically and religiously motivated violence, it seems, is only worth lamenting when it demonizes opponents. Which also helps explain why the phrase "lone shooter" is ubiquitous in media coverage of jihadi shooters gone wild — think convicted "Jeep Jihadist" Mohammed Taheri-Azar at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill or Israel-bashing gunman Naveed Haq, who targeted a Seattle Jewish charity, or LAX shooter Hesham Hedayet, who opened fire at the El Al Israeli airline ticket counter — but not in cases involving rare acts of anti-abortion violence.

Even Jeffrey Goldberg of the left-leaning Atlantic magazine noticed the double standards. He called attention to a National Public Radio report on the military recruiter attack that failed to mention the religion and anti-military animus of the suspect.

Wrote Goldberg: "Why not tell people what is actually happening in the world? We saw this a couple of weeks ago, when the press only gingerly acknowledged that the malevolent though incompetent suspects in the synagogue bombing-conspiracy case in New York were converts to Islam.

"How is the public served by this kind of silence? The extremist Christian beliefs of Tiller's alleged murderer are relevant to that case, and no one in my profession is hesitant to discuss them. Why the hesitancy to talk about the motivations of the man who allegedly killed Pvt. William Long?"

The truth is that the "climate of hate" doesn't have just one hemisphere. But you won't hear the Council on American-Islamic Relations acknowledging the national security risks of jihadi infiltrators who despise our military and have plotted against our troops from within the ranks — including convicted fragging killer Hasan Akbar and terror plotters Ali Mohamed, Jeffrey Battle and Semi Osman.

You won't hear about the escalating war on military recruitment centers on the op-ed pages of the New York Times — from vandalism to obstruction to Molotov cocktail attacks on campus stations; to the shutdown of a Pittsburgh military recruitment office by zealots holding signs that read "Recruiters are Child Predators"; to the prolonged harassment campaign against the Marine recruiting center in Berkeley, where Code Pink protesters called American soldiers assassins; to the bomb blast at the Times Square recruiting center last March.

And you'll hear little about the most recent left-wing calls to violence by a Playboy magazine writer who published a vulgar list of conservative female writers and commentators he said he'd like to rape. The list was hyped by the magazine's publicity team and lightheartedly promoted by mainstream publications such as Politico.com (founded by Washington Post reporters).

Is it too much to ask the media cartographers in charge of mapping the "climate of hate" to do their jobs with both eyes open?
