Sebelius failed to have Abortion Fundraiser Monies Reimbursed
Story
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ office didn’t seek reimbursement for a controversial 2007 reception she hosted for Wichita abortion provider George Tiller until last month. That’s more than a year after the event. Last week, anti-abortion groups released photos of the reception, prompting criticism that Sebelius hosted Tiller and some 20 of his guests and staff members at the governor’s mansion April 9, 2007. State law forbids the use of state money for political purposes. Rep. Lance Kinzer, an Olathe Republican, said he objects to the idea that the governor can donate access to Cedar Crest at political fundraisers, and he said new rules for how the mansion is used might be needed. It’s clear existing rules prohibiting the state from paying for political events weren’t followed, he said. “Certainly there was a breakdown here,” Kinzer said. “I won’t ascribe nefarious motives or anything, but it leads to further questions.”
Did Gov. Kathleen Sebelius violate Kansas ethics laws by donating auction items and not reporting them?
Story
Gov. Sebelius’ reception for Dr. George Tiller at the Governor’s mansion while Tiller was under criminal investigation has been in the news for the past several days. News reports today focused on a late reimbursement for the event, but failed to ask questions about possible ethics violations by Sebelius. She did not report the auction items she donated to the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus as expenditures by her campaign committee or PAC.
A Tax Threat from Surbaugh
Story
A warning message from the Johnson County Chair about the quarter-cent sales tax renewal was clear: Without it, more will come from the pockets of county residents who pay property taxes. County Commission Chair Annabeth Surbaugh said if voters don’t approve the lifetime tax — which would generate nearly $20 million annually to ease the county’s public safety woes — property taxes will increase.
100% Judicial nominees are Democrats in a county with 21% Democrats
Story
In the last 10th Judicial Selection the nominating committee selected all Democrats, two of which gave political contributions to Kathleen Sebelius. The interesting thing is that according to voter registration data from the Kansas Secretary of State in late January 2008, Johnson County only has 21.12% Democrats. If each judicial selection had a 21.12% chance of selecting a Democrat, the chance of selecting Democrats as all three candidates would be less than 1%. The selection of three Democrats did not just happen by chance.

Teacher Indicted on Child Porn Charges
Story
Coen Potts, a former elementary art teacher in Auburn-Washburn Unified School District 437, pleaded guilty Monday to child pornography charges. Potts was removed from teaching duties Oct. 25, 2006, the same day his apartment in the 4100 block of S.W. Twilight Drive was searched by FBI agents. Officials say the search yielded thousands of electronically-stored child pornography images obtained by joining online groups. In addition, 52 printed images were found in a box, and 253 images were slipped inside page protectors within a three-ring binder.
