I just learned that one of my oldest and dearest friends, Rich Nadler, died this morning at his home in Kansas City. Rich was many things: a high-school dropout, an autodidact, a traveling jazz musician, an ex-communist, the publisher of the late, great K.C. Jones, a hilarious movie reviewer, the head of the Missouri Taxpayers Watchdog Association, and a sometime contributor to National Review and, lately, the Corner. In the last years of his life he was, above all, a devout orthodox Jew and a devoted husband to Barbara. He gave me my start in journalism and constantly encouraged me, even as we came to disagree on some matters. He was one of the most brilliant men I have ever known. Now there are a hundred things I won't be able to talk or argue with him about. R.I.P.

Tiller Assassin was Pro-Choice

On Sunday, May 31, 2009 Abortionist George Tiller dressed for church not knowing it would be his last day on Earth. The physician who has become infamous for the death of thousands of pre-born babies through his late term abortion practice, was gunned down just outside the sanctuary of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita in which he was a member.

The gunman was 51-year old Scott Phillip Roeder of Merriam, Kansas. An ex-convict who served time in the Kansas Prison System for possession of explosives and parole violations, Roeder will become the new poster child as an example of the wacko pro-life zealot with the liberal media. In Yesterday’s Kansas City (Falling) Star, columnist Mike Hendricks wrote an editorial calling all pro-lifers as responsible for the murder of Tiller as the gunman. Hendricks lamented that “anyone who has referred to Tiller as ‘Tiller the Killer’ is guilty.

However the truth behind the incident is that Roeder was pro-choice because he chose to kill a person instead of choosing life. You see, the pro-life community believes that Doctor Tiller even with the blood of thousands of pre-born babies deaths on his hands had a life that was “made in the image and likeness of God”. A person who is truly pro-life believes in the sacredness of life. God who gives life should be the only one who takes it away. We deplore the killing of George Tiller!

The fact is that Tiller’s death or the death of any abortionist will not reduce or eliminate the number of abortions. As long as the courts allow for abortion on demand, someone’s child, sibling, nephew, niece or grandchild will never get a chance at life.

The left will hold Tiller as a martyr and the candlelight vigils have already occurred. More will come.
