Supremely Wrong
Story
Secret hearings, gagged witnesses, blocked access, closed-door deals. There ought to be a law. Machine politics is generally associated with cities, the cynical cronyism that is the prerequisite to wholesale corruption and urban decay. But these days it’s at its worst in, of all places, Kansas, under the governorship of leading Democratic vice-presidential contender, Kathleen Sebelius.
Because of fuel prices, businesses are forced to pass costs on
Story
Record $130-plus-a-barrel crude oil and near-$4-a-gallon gas are dividing providers of transportation-based services into two groups — those who are adding fuel surcharges or raising prices and those seriously thinking about it. Fuel surcharges and price increases aren’t new — think airlines and trucking companies. Now, though, they’re increasingly creeping into everyday business transactions. Economists are closely watching how much of these initially temporary costs become embedded in the more permanent base prices that consumers pay for goods. “Once companies pass through higher prices, those prices generally stick, except in circumstances where they are competed down,” Lafakis said. And that trend is becoming troubling, Tom Hoenig, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, said in a speech earlier this month in Denver. “The bigger concern is that these (energy price) increases are beginning to generate an inflation psychology to an extent that I have not seen since the 1970s and early 1980s,” Hoenig said.
Libs want you to pay more at the pump
Story
Millions of vacationers will pay record prices for gasoline as they hit the roads this Memorial Day weekend, and only those who've been in the sun too long would like to see prices climb even higher. Yet several members of Congress seem determined to guarantee that they will. They're trying to pass a bill that would raise pump prices. Why? Because they think it would force people to use less. The America's Climate Security Act, sponsored by Sens. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., and John Warner, R-Va., would also increase electricity and natural gas costs, all in the name of supposedly fighting global warming.

Habitat for Humanity Agrees to Work with Abortion Giant
Story
Habitat for Humanity has verbally agreed to an arrangement that would help Planned Parenthood open an abortion facility in Sarasota, Florida. The agreement, which reportedly has not been finalized, would fulfill a city requirement that would allow Planned Parenthood to acquire the occupancy permit it needs to open.
“According to zoning regulations, Planned Parenthood cannot build their abortion facility in the planned location without the presence of a multifamily liner building,” said Jim Sedlak, vice-president of American Life League. “Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood found a creative solution to its problem and is using Habitat for Humanity to achieve its objective. Planned Parenthood plans to sell land to Habitat for $10 so it can meet city requirements.”
Global Warming Lunacy – Carbon Credit Cards Mandatory
Story
Every adult should be forced to use a 'carbon ration card' when they pay for petrol, airline tickets or household energy, MPs say. The influential Environmental Audit Committee says a personal carbon trading scheme is the best and fairest way of cutting Britain's CO2 emissions without penalizing the poor. Under the scheme, everyone would be given an annual carbon allowance to use when buying oil, gas, electricity and flights.

Rumors about an event for Tiller and his staff at Sebelius' official residence have circulated among abortion opponents for weeks. On Monday, commentator Robert Novak said in his column that Sebelius had invited Tiller and his staff to a party at the residence, labeling her "the national pro-choice poster girl."

Bathroom Lunacy
Story
With today's signature on SB200, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, has eliminated gender-specific restrooms and locker rooms statewide, giving woman and girls reason to fear being confronted by predators, cross-dressers "or even a homosexual or heterosexual male," according to a critic. The state's new "transgender nondiscrimination" bill makes it illegal to deny a person access to public accommodations, including restrooms and locker rooms, based on gender identity or the "perception" of gender identity.

Obama speeches contradict autobiography, Army documents
Story
In a 2002 anti-war speech, Barack Hussein Obama told the audience, "My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain." But in his autobiography, "Dreams of My Father," Obama states his grandfather never engaged in combat. "Gramps returned from the war never having seen real combat, and the family moved to California, where he enrolled at Berkeley under the GI bill," he writes. "But the classroom couldn't contain his ambitions, his restlessness, and so the family moved again." Obama's 2002 claim his grandfather enlisted in the Army the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor is contradicted by Army records showing Dunham signed up June 18, 1942 – six months after Pearl Harbor.

Alaska Governor turning into Conservative Superstar
Story
The polar bears are doing just fine, thank you very much. So says Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska), who announced last week that her state would sue to block Washington from listing the animals as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act. And it's a good thing, too - because the new bear-population protections mask what may be the most serious threat to American economic might in decades. Yes, polar bears. The polar bear, you see, marks the first species on the "threatened" list whose supposed predicament is linked directly to global warming. The current Alaskan polar-bear population may be near an all-time high. But Interior Department computer models - such as they are - project widespread melting of the polar ice the bears need to hunt. And that's a big problem, given the near-limitless powers embedded in the Endangered Species Act. The act, for one, requires the department to ensure that "all actions authorized, funded or carried out" by all federal agencies aren't likely to "result in the adverse modification of habitat" of listed species.

The trend has been the source of growing concern among health researchers and school officials. Around the country, the drinks have been linked with reports of nausea, abnormal heart rhythms and emergency room visits.
