This is why the story of love and union between a man and a woman in the alliance of marriage was taken up by God as a symbol of the history of salvation.”
Fred Thompson: California, here we come…
Story
So, more power to the people of California in their uphill battle for an amendment to their state constitution. But the real, long-term solution in the future for supporters of the rule of law is ensuring the selection and election of good judges, judges who know their role in a constitutional republic, in the first place, and holding them – and the politicians who appoint and confirm them – accountable.
Judicial Watch Statement on California Supreme Court Ruling that Overturns Traditional Marriage
Story
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement today in response to today’s ruling by the California Supreme Court that imposes same-sex marriage on the state of California: “Today, a bare majority of the California Supreme Court, in an audacious political power grab, usurped the democratic process by redefining marriage. The laws of this nation rely on the proper functioning of the courts, including a proper balance of powers, and the judiciary’s ability to demonstrate restraint. This ruling undermines the rule of law. I’m sure bigamists and other ‘polyamorists’ will take solace in this activist and radical ruling because, if its logic is followed, it will be difficult to keep marriage legally limited to only two people.”

Senators Warn Bill Could Spike Gas $1.50 to $5 a Gallon
Story
Worried about gas prices hitting $4 a gallon and beyond? Imagine if they were $6, $7 or even $8 a gallon. Those levels are a certain possibility should Congress pass cap-and-trade legislation, which could face a vote in early June. Oil is trading at record levels, in excess of $120 a barrel. Leading Republican Sens. James Inhofe (Okla.) and Jeff Sessions (Ala.) both told the Business & Media Institute (BMI) energy prices would drastically increase if the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act (S. 2191) is signed into law.
The Good and Bad Approaches to Affordable Energy Policy
Story
Good energy policy is easy to distinguish from bad energy policy: Good policy leads to more supplies of affordable energy, and bad policy leads to less. The recently rejected American Energy Production Act of 2008 (S. 2958), sponsored by Senator Mitch McConnell R–KY), sought for the most part to make it easier to access domestic energy supplies by undoing past constraints, including restrictions on domestic oil production.

That Democratic twitch
Story
President Reagan talked with the Soviets while pushing ahead with the deployment of Cruise and Pershing missiles in Europe. He spoke softly — after getting himself a bigger stick. Sen. Obama is proposing to reward a man who pledges to wipe Israel off the map with a presidential photo-op to which he will bring not even a twig. No wonder he’s so twitchy about it.
Time to Repeal the Ethanol Mandate
Story
Though intended to help consumers and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the ethanol mandate has done just the opposite, contributing to high food and gas prices with little environmental benefit. Representative Jeff Flake (R–AZ) has introduced H.R. 5911, the Remove Incentives for Producing Ethanol Act of 2008, which would eliminate the mandate and other benefits for ethanol, and other measures may soon be introduced. A return to a free market for ethanol would be a welcome step. Congress should eliminate the ethanol mandate, ethanol-related tax breaks, and protectionist tariffs that keep out potentially cheaper foreign supplies.

He folds the Colorado flag into a neat square, the U.S. flag into a triangle, and places them in a cabinet in the office.

Abuse of power in Texas
Story
I don't like some of the things that went on in that community. I don't approve of them. There may even have been some laws broken. Irene Sendler, RN – “Angel of Warsaw” Dies
Story
On May 12 Irene Sendler, the courageous Polish Catholic nurse who saved Jewish children from death at the hands of the Nazis, died at the age of 98 in a hospital in Warsaw. Sendler became known as the angel of the Warsaw ghetto for having saved 2,500 Jewish children from certain death. After the creation of the Warsaw ghetto, Sendler was able to take in the children of many families in order to keep them from being deported to the concentration camps. She transported the children in ambulances as if they were sick with typhus, she hid them in trash cans, tool boxes, supply chests or coffins and later in convents and Catholic homes. She created an archive with the real identities of the children so that one day they could be reunited with their surviving family members. In 1943 she was detained by the Gestapo and taken to prison where she was brutally tortured. A Divine Mercy holy card was found in her cell with the phrase, Jesus I trust in you, which she kept until 1979 when she gave it to John Paul II as a gift.
