The Soda-Pop Taxers Are Back
With each passing day, the tax policies of the Obama administration and congressional Democrats look more like Herbert Hoover’s Revenue Act of 1932, one of the most infamous pieces of legislation in U.S. history. The announcement from Senate Democratic leaders this week that they are considering an excise tax on soft drinks — a piece of the 1932 act that almost no one expected to see — is one of many ominous similarities.
Tell Congress to Vote NO to Cap-and-Trade
Washington , D.C. is an endlessly frustrating place isn't it? President Obama continues to tell us he "only" wants to raise taxes on "the rich" -- whatever that actually means. Then he calls for massive new energy taxes through his "Cap and Trade" scheme that will dramatically increase the cost of gasoline for our automobiles for every American while also increasing home energy costs by thousands of dollars for American families and small businesses. All this, in the name of Global Warming. Right now, the Energy and Commerce Committee is getting ready to vote on a cap-and-trade tax and I’m asking you to send your Congressman a message to vote NO on the current cap-and-trade scheme in the Energy and Commerce Committee.
$500 million for ‘Green’ Propaganda in Schools
Surrounded by elementary students from the Green School in Baltimore and charming critters – including an armadillo, cheetah and an Asian Toddy Cat – Democrats declared that the introduction of the “No Child Left Inside Act of 2009” was “historic” legislation that would connect children with nature. Some critics, however, said it is a way to spread environmental propaganda in the public schools. The bill, sponsored and co-sponsored by Democrats, was introduced in the House and Senate on Earth Day, April 22. It would provide $500 million over five years to schools with approved “environmental literacy” plans for students in grades kindergarten through 12, and offer competitive grants to schools and non-profits for outdoor education projects. But some critics charge that what appears to support getting kids outside to learn about nature also promotes an environmental message with a more political agenda. “The Obama administration and Congress are moving toward having the power of a national school board,” Dan Lips, a senior policy analyst with the conservative Heritage Foundation
Pelosi torture woes now hurting Obama
Pelosi, who was sometimes ruthless in her drive to the top, elicits a fear and loathing among Republicans similar to the effect former Speaker Newt Gingrich had on Democrats. Her poll numbers are also considerably lower than Obama's. It is no accident that Republican leaders time and again praise Obama's efforts to reach across the aisle and direct their fire instead at the speaker. Her undisguised dislike of former President George W. Bush and profound ideological disputes with Republicans only fuel the fires. Gingrich on Friday called Pelosi "a trivial politician" driven by partisan politics.
"Obama Man"
Canadian comedian Greg Morton weighs in on the current financial crisis and how President Obama plans to get us out of it.
Girl Scouts exposed: Lessons in lesbianism and Communism
When many parents think of Girl Scouts, they imagine young girls in uniform selling Thin Mints and Tagalong cookies – not learning about stone labyrinths, world peace, global warming, yoga, avatars, smudging incense, Zen gardens and feminist, communist and lesbian role models. But that's exactly what many of 2.7 million Girl Scouts will learn about with a new curriculum called "Journeys" released last year.
Airman spots aircraft fuel leak at 35,000 feet
Most of us hear stories of Airmen saving lives in combat, but an Airman who saves the lives of more than 300 passengers is definitely a story worth hearing. A fuel leak on a civilian aircraft caught the attention of Staff Sgt. Bartek Bachleda, 909th Air Refueling Squadron boom operator, during a flight from Chicago to Narita airport, Japan. After alerting the pilots and aircrew, the ranking pilot made the decision to divert the flight to San Francisco. "I noticed the leak on the left side of the aircraft right behind the wing earlier during take-off," said Sergeant Bachleda. Sergeant Bachleda continued analyzing the outflow of fuel to be 100 percent sure it was a leak while the plane was reaching cruising altitude. Almost an hour into the flight, he told a stewardess of the possible leak, but was given an unconcerned response. Sergeant Bachleda then began to capture the possible leak on video. He then got the stewardess' attention by saying, "Ma'am it's an emergency." He identified himself to her and showed her the leak on video. "She was completely serious and was no longer handing out drinks," he said. "I told her you need to inform your captain before we go oceanic."
President Barack Obama Picks Pro-Abortion NYC Health Head Frieden for CDC
Add another abortion advocate to list of the people President Barack Obama has chosen for key health positions. Following pro-abortion ex-Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius becoming his health secretary, Obama named New York City’s health commissioner Thomas Frieden as head of the CDC. Frieden, who was controversial during his time in New York, which has long has the highest abortion rate of any major city, was named director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New York City has paid millions of dollars over the years for abortions for poor residents and required medical students there to lean how to do abortions.
What California's Budget Mess Means for America
He was the perfect political superhero, sent to rescue California from spend-happy politicians at just the right time. And yet Arnold Schwarzenegger’s reign as governor has turned into a disaster flick that could spell catastrophe for the Golden State—and the whole nation. In 2003's historic recall election, the former Mr. Olympia pummeled dozens of candidates—from incumbent Gray Davis to former child actor Gary Coleman to porn star Mary Carey—on the road to Sacramento. He promised to abolish the odious car tax implemented by Davis. And to balance the budget, cut taxes and spending, and make California more business-friendly. "He promised to stop the crazy deficit spending, cut up the credit cards, live within our means. And he did exactly the opposite. Schwarzenegger increased spending faster than we saw under Gray Davis," says Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), who was a state senator—and one of Arnold's challengers—six years ago.
State Governments Face Deficits and Fiscal Trouble Because of Spending
By studying the period from 2002 to 2007—that is, the period that began as the economy came out of the mild 2001 recession—we can judge how states spent money when times were better and their services weren’t as desperately needed. In this period, unemployment dipped to around 4 percent, a historic low in modern times; gross domestic product posted steady gains; and most economic measures pointed upward. Meanwhile, the states indulged in fiscal irresponsibility from which no taxpayer should feel eager to bail them out.
Steele: We will support Pro-Abortion Candidates
The chairman of the Republican Party says the GOP is open to supporting pro-abortion rights candidates. Appearing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," the head of the Republican National Committee responded to a question from moderator David Gregeory about the viability of a GOP politician who isn't strictly anti-abortion. "We've had wonderful pro, pro-choice candidates," Steele said. "Former Governor Christie Todd Whitman of New Jersey." So much for principle, Mr. Steele!
More ACORN workers charged in voter probe
Seven Pittsburgh-area ACORN workers were charged with falsifying voter registration forms, with six accused of doing so to meet the group's alleged quota system before last year's general election.
Biden carries big debt
Vice President Joe Biden may be able to use his $220,000 annual salary to start paying down as much as $465,000 in debt. According to a disclosure statement released Friday afternoon by the White House, Biden last year carried between $165,000 and $465,000 in debt, including a line of credit he took out last year worth as much as $50,000.
Biden Accidentally Discloses Secret VP Location
Ever wonder about that secure, undisclosed location where Dick Cheney secreted himself after the 9/11 attacks? Joe Biden reveals the bunker-like room is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, where Cheney lived for eight years and which is now home to Biden. The veep related the story to his head-table dinner mates when he filled in for President Obama at the Gridiron Club earlier this year. He said the young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment.
Oppose Destructive Stem Cell Research
On March 9, President Obama issued an Executive Order overturning the limits President Bush had placed on government funding of destructive embryonic stem cell research. On April 23, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) published draft guidelines to implement the Obama directive. If these guidelines are approved, federal taxpayer funds will support research on human embryonic stem cells derived by killing human embryos created in fertility clinics through in vitro fertilization. Parents will be able to donate their embryonic children for such research when they feel they no longer need them for reproduction. The guidelines currently do not allow federal funding for research on human embryonic stem cells derived from cloning or parthenogenesis, or from IVF embryos specially created for research purposes. See: www.nchla.org/docdisplay.asp?ID=245. The public has until May 26 to submit comments.
Rush: Pelosi should resign as Speaker
Rush Limbaugh on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: "But we are going to learn soon, folks, if women are the equal of men. We are going to learn very soon if women can finally break the glass ceiling. And you know what the test is? Let me tell you what the test is. Will Nancy Pelosi resign as Speaker of the House? That's the test. Come on now, we've had two men resign as Speaker ... So if women really want equal treatment, if they really want to crash through that glass ceiling, there is no better benchmark than Nancy Pelosi taking herself and her place right alongside two men who resigned."
Obama's Top Advisor Suggests First Family Name Dog "Miss California"
Senior Advisor to the president and former campaign consultant David Axelrod was the special guest on National Public Radio's “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” which made a road trip to George Washington University in the nation’s capital for an episode that will air this weekend. When Axelrod was asked if he had weighed in on the Obama family's dog choice, he answered, "I was only called in for the final three, and one was Miss California."

TKF Special Report
This week TKF will focus on the Obama/Notre Dame Controversy:
Evangelicals and Catholics Join Forces in Notre Dame Protest
Evangelical megachurches across San Diego, Calif., are joining Catholics on Sunday to make a public outcry against abortion in their first ever joint pro-life rally.
The demonstration, which will take place after the multiple worship services that typically take place at megachurches, is being held on the same day President Barack Obama will take the stage at the University of Notre Dame to deliver the commencement speech. While the San Diego rally is fundamentally a pro-life rally, the undertone of the event is "a statement to the president that the killing of babies must come to an end," Pastor Jim Garlow of Skyline Church told The Christian Post. Garlow, along with thousands of Catholics, believes the University of Notre Dame is violating its Roman Catholic values by awarding Obama with an honorary doctor of laws degree. "We join with many in noting this moment of deception and shame," Garlow said.
Kansans Protest President’s Notre Dame Visit
Today in Overland Park a group of about 20, which were mostly Catholic, protested President Barack Obama’s scheduled visit tomorrow to the University of Notre Dame to give a commencement address and receive an honorary degree. Some frustrated that it was too far to drive to South Bend, Indiana tomorrow decided to show their opposition to this visit here locally. The event organizer, Noelle Moll, a pro-life mom from Overland Park, was motivated to promote this event even though she has never done anything like this before. In the video below Noelle explains that she wanted to protest President Obama’s pro-abortion policies since he is “the most pro-abortion president in U.S. History.”
Protesters arrested ahead of Obama Notre Dame trip
Among those arrested was the Rev. Norman Weslin, a Catholic priest and founder of the Lambs of Christ abortion protest group. He also was among 21 people arrested during a similar protest Friday. None of those arrested Saturday were students, Brown said.
Former Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes and five others were arrested Friday and held overnight with no bond—a change in procedure for their second arrests. They had their bonds set Saturday at $1,000 by St. Joseph Superior Judge Jerome Frese.
Also protesting Saturday was Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff identified as "Roe" in the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. She now opposes abortion.
Notre Dame: Transform or Conform?
As a graduate of Notre Dame I have been asked many times what I think of Notre Dame inviting President Barack Obama to speak at commencement and receive an honorary doctorate. Many have ably commented on this, including Fr. Sirico here at Acton, Dr. Donald Condit, and over 50 bishops. I think the ND Response video piece sums it up well. But I received a video appeal from Notre Dame the other day asking for money which prompted me to comment. (See my reply to the appeal below) I think Fr. Jenkins made a serious mistake of judgment in inviting President Obama to the graduation. The controversy over President Obama coming to Notre Dame is not an argument about the value of open debate at a university; it is not about President Obama. It is about a Catholic institution honoring a public figure whose positions directly contradict those of the Catholic Church on the key non-negotiable issues of life. Faithful Catholics are free to disagree about a host – in fact, the overwhelming majority - of political and economic issues, but some moral issues, like the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life, are not up for debate and never have been.

Ethics Commission under fire after 'scolding' by attorney general
A growing storm of criticism - including a humiliating public scolding by the Attorney General's office - is leading some public officials to call for an overhaul of the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission.
Andover teen beats cancer to graduate
In his words, Paul Wagle was on his deathbed many times.
But even in those darkest times, Wagle, 17, believed he could beat the cancer that devastated his body for several years, believed he would return to a normal life, believed he would see his friends again, believed he would regain a "normal" life. And so today when Wagle walked across the stage at Andover Central High School's graduation, people who knew what Wagle had endured for years surely were even more inspired by his accomplishment. "It's just an honor to be graduating," he said just a few hours before getting his diploma with his Andover Central classmates. "It's like unreal that I made it through all this stuff and I'm back where I'm normal now. I'm back where I was supposed to be." All that "stuff" started when Wagle was just 10 years old, when he was diagnosed with leukemia.
Commissioners endorse Chisholm Creek, Lakes sites for Kansas casino
Sumner County Commissioners on Monday endorsed three of the five proposed casino sites, with one in Wellington and two at Exit 33 in Mulvane. Commissioners Jim Newell, Gary E.?Martin and Eldon Gracy unanimously approved the endorsements and pre-development agreements for Lakes Entertainment at Exit 33 and Exit 19 and for Chisholm Creek Resorts.
Missouri lawmakers sign accusations against Gov. Nixon Staffers
Two Republican House members have signed sworn statements backing up their assertions that a staffer for Gov. Jay Nixon improperly tried to influence their votes.
House members Anne Zerr, of St. Charles, and Chris Molendorp, of Belton, claimed last week that Nixon aide Dustin Allison suggested they would be rewarded if they voted for a budget bill funding a Medicaid expansion. Zerr and Molendorp voted against the bill. They released affidavits Wednesday recounting their conversations with Allison.
Republicans have equated the conversations to attempted bribery.

"Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic."
- Pope Benedict XVI

From Proverbs 16:10
The king's lips are an oracle; no judgment he pronounces is false.

9 As the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you.
10 If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; as Ialso have kept my Father's commandments, and do abide in his love.
11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be filled.
12 This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you.
15 I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth notwhat his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all thingswhatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.
16 You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and haveappointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; andyour fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Fatherin my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

Support the Wyandotte Pregnancy Clinic
The Wyandotte Pregnancy Clinic (WPC) and we will be offering open houses on Thursday, June 11 and on Saturday, June 13 at 7:00 pm.
WPC is working to expand to serve more inner-city clients. A little over three years ago, Carl Landwehr, the President of Vitae Foundation summarized one of their investigations as follows: “Essentially, there aren’t enough pregnancy care centers to help minorities in the inner cities of Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas.” Since that time WPC opened in KCK but there is still a great need.
The first goal is to expand to a mobile sonogram unit. This is a sonogram which will be housed in an RV and driven around the city (both KS and MO) to meet women where they are at – whether that be at Planned Parenthood sites, the mall, or neighborhood hot spots. (Learn more at http://www.mobileultrasound.org )
The second goal is a fixed location in Kansas City, Missouri. The mobile unit will help us establish which location would be best. A site near the Planned Parenthood at 47th & Troost seems like a good idea, but we will have the opportunity to test that idea before incurring major expenses. Perhaps we’ll find out a location closer to downtown would allow us to reach more abortion-minded women.
WPC is an ecumenical organization but their procedures are all in line with Catholic Church teaching. (Some pregnancy resource centers promote abstinence to unmarried women, but do recommend birth control for married women. Others proselytize first rather than first meeting the immediate needs of the woman.)
During our first two years of operation we were blessed to help save the lives of over 123 babies. Praise God! And we continue to reach abortion-risk women. Please see the attached internal heart-warming report on one of our recent days of operation.
We were very blessed to have been provided with primarily start-up funds to help us get established. Now our task is to build a solid financial support base for our continued ministry. With the current enormous attack on life being waged by our federal government this is a very positive way that you can help build a culture of life. If you choose to support us you will play an important role in helping save the lives of babies being threatened to be killed.
Please join us at an open house and see if this ministry is one that you would like to support. The open house will be kept to one hour beginning at 7PM. It will begin with a tour of the impressive 5,000 square foot facility and will be followed by a presentation by the WPC Client Services Director and a testimony from a client. There will be a fundraising appeal at the end of the open house, but there is not any pressure to make a decision that evening.
Given your previous dedication to the pro-life movement, I think you will find this project very exciting. I hope you will be available to attend the open house but if you aren’t we can arrange for a tour at any time. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you can join me! Thank you for your consideration.
It is said that it takes a village to raise a child and unfortunately in today’s culture it takes a village to save a child. Please help.
