Last week the FBI arrested 6 Islamic Terrorists that were preparing to attack Ft. Dix, New Jersey, a U.S. Army Post. Yet where were the major stories associated with such an event? Very few of the mainstream newspaper outlets covered the story yet alone discussed the importance of mitigating such an attack. It is mind numbing to see the lack of coverage on such an important event.

Furthermore, we are now learning that 50% of those Islamic Terrorist arrested in this incident were in our country illegally. The others became America citizens or were on work visas. In addition we are now learning that these Islamic Terrorist were either stopped, detained or intelligence was collected over 50 times by law enforcement officials around the country. And yet none of these law enforcement agencies new that the terrorists were in this country illegally or effectively communicated with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials that they had been detained. The vast majority of these police stops and investigations? Post 911.

The background of our homeland security issues is not about race, bigotry, protectionism, or ignorance. It is about the safety and security of our country and our people. We were extremely blessed to have this particular event ended before it began. My compliments to the FBI, the US Attorney’s Office and the American Citizen who was involved in this case. But the issue remains, if we do not have diligent leadership on this problem and secure the borders first, we may not be as blessed in the future.
