CBO: ObamaCare $115 billion more than thought
Congressional Budget Office estimates released Tuesday predict the health care overhaul will likely cost about $115 billion more in discretionary spending over ten years than the original cost projections. Of all the slime dripping from ObamaCare, from the de facto bribes to the procedural shenanigans to the Democrats’ insane demagoguery of townhall protesters, the gaming of the CBO numbers is what bothers me most.

Governor Praises Legislature for Tax Increase
Following near all-night marathon sessions in which House members passed a $13.7 billion budget, sent to the Senate early Saturday morning, and, by a three-vote margin, ratified a sales tax increase early Tuesday, House and Senate members wrapped up business later Tuesday afternoon by also approving an $8.2 billion transportation plan. Parkinson on Tuesday commended legislators for passing the budget and tax increases, which were strongly opposed by conservative Republicans who believe that the measures will stunt job growth in Kansas, delay the state's recovery from recession and roll many of its financial problems into the future.

Renewable Electricity: What It Will Really Cost US
Renewable energy—harnessing the power of the wind and the sun—sounds wonderful until confronted with the facts. While wind and sun are indeed free, turning their energy into consumer-accessible electricity is not. Nor is it easy. Wind power must be used at the moment the wind is blowing— which it generally does not do during blazing-hot summer days, the peak of electricity use. Both solar and wind power require costly installations and transmission mechanisms. Instead of saving money for Americans, renewable energy sources are much more likely to spike their utility bills. Nevertheless, Congress is considering a mandate for a nationwide renewable electricity standard (RES). Heritage Foundation energy policy experts explain why an imposed national RES would be bad for families, bad for business, and bad for the economy.

Catholic Bishop calls for secure borders
Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa has issued a statement calling for secure borders and immigration reform. In recent years, the federal government has neither protected the sovereignty of our borders, nor has it provided a realistic means for workers to enter the country legally. Instead it has allowed millions of immigrants to enter the country illegally for the sake of our economy. Let me propose five principles, which might serve to guide our work in implementing comprehensive immigration reform: First, and foremost the Federal government must find a way to protect its borders.

The Kansas Senate fell one vote short of the 27 needed to override Governor Parkinson’s veto of HB 2115. This spells the end of HB 2115. However, he indicated that he was waiting to see what would happen with HB 2115.Senators had a chance to ensure that Kansas would never again be the late-term abortion capital of the country. The following 14 senators chose otherwise, and will bear no small measure of the blame if Dr. Carhart does in fact relocate his abortion business to Kansas: Voted NO Jean Schodorf – Wichita Pete Brungardt – Salina Tom Holland – Baldwin City Kelly Kultala – Kansas City Laura Kelly – Topeka Marci Francisco – Lawrence David Haley – Kansas City Ruth Teichman – Stafford Oletha Faust-Goudeau – Wichita Terrie Huntington – Fairway Vicki Schmidt – Topeka Chris Steineger – Kansas City John Vratil – Leawood Anthony Hensley – Topeka

Suns Security Illegally Detains Businessmen
A Phoenix business executive wore a pro-immigration law T-shirt to Game 2 of Los Suns against the Spurs. The executive was hassled over the shirt by Suns security but was later allowed to return to his seats behind the San Antonio bench, and he was allowed to still wear the shirt. Jim Clark, CEO of Republic Monetary Exchange in Phoenix, said he and his friend were approached by security guards early in the game at US Airways Center and asked to take the shirts off or turn them inside out. Clark said the security guards then removed him and his friends from their seats, but they were later allowed to return after discussing the matter with the Suns’ security director. They were allowed to keep their pro-1070 shirts on right-side out. Clark said he later received a call from Suns president Rick Welts, who apologized for the incident and is giving Clark four seats to the next 10 Suns games. Clark said he plans on wearing the pro-1070 again, and he might print up some more shirts to sell.

Boom to Nowhere!
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, clad in life vest and wader boots, visited the west end of Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores, Ala., last week to help BP contractors install an oil retention boom to protect the area’s white beaches from the oil spill. But according to one area homeowner, the boom Salazar helped place — during a photo shoot that was covered widely by the media — offers no protection to the shores and wildlife. “We call it the ‘boom to nowhere,’” said Laguna Key homeowner John Simms. “Where the boom is placed it doesn’t keep the oil out of the lagoon and it doesn’t protect the marsh.”

Gospel of St. John 16:5-11

5 But I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I am going to him who sent me. And no one among you has asked me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I am going. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But when I will have gone away, I will send him to you. 8 And when he has arrived, he will argue against the world, about sin and about justice and about judgment: 9 about sin, indeed, because they have not believed in me; 10 about justice, truly, because I am going to the Father, and you will not see me any longer;?11 about judgment, then, because the prince of this world has already been judged.

Passing Massive Tax Increase is Wrong Path
By Derrick Sontag

The Kansas chapter of the grassroots group Americans for Prosperity released the following statement in response to the tax increase by the Kansas legislative during the veto session.

“It’s disappointing that liberal Republicans and Democrats have apparently chosen to place the burden of closing our state’s budget gap squarely on Kansas families and businesses,” said AFP-Kansas state director Derrick Sontag. “At a time of high unemployment, when more and more layoffs are being announced and when employers are struggling to keep their doors open, passing a massive tax increase is simply, the wrong path to take.

“Passage of the Senate tax bill will only place Kansas retailers at an even larger competitive disadvantage to businesses in surrounding states. Trying to force Kansans to pay for this budget problem will only backfire on the Legislature, as it will simply push more Kansans across the state line to make their purchases.

“With more than a third of our state’s population living in a county bordering Missouri alone, raising Kansas tax rates will just create an incentive to shop outside our state.

“From 2004 to 2009, state spending increased by 40 percent. And despite the claims by some, the budget that this tax increase is aimed to support represents an increase in state general fund spending of $195 million from the current year budget. “It’s unfortunate that rather than seizing the opportunity to reduce the size of our state government, legislators have chosen to impose on all Kansans the highest sales tax increase in state history. To make matters worse, they have elected this route not to lessen the amount of a reduction to our state general fund but rather, to increase spending thus electing to grow government at a time when family and business budgets are shrinking.

“This act by an out of touch legislature should not be tolerated by a struggling private sector. This is the time to evaluate and implement sound practices aimed at providing a more efficient state government, practices such as the selling off of unneeded state assets including buildings and land an idea that was offered and subsequently, refuted by the liberal coalition.
