Windfall Profits Tax is a bad idea
Story
Fast becoming an official communications appendage of the Barack Obama campaign, the New York Times editorializes today on the “petty pandering” of Hillary Clinton’s and John McCain’s call for a suspension of the federal gas tax over the summer. Noting that the policy would not deliver lower prices for consumers, the Times asserts that “their demagoguery is growing into a real problem.” The New York Times is at least half right; demagoguery is a real problem that is threatening to significantly worsen our nation’s energy policy. But it is the Obama/Clinton oil profit windfall tax that would be damaging to most Americans.

A student senate leader at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has told pro-life display supporters they have no right to express their opinion on the volatile issue of abortion. "[Abortion] is a right. You don't have the right to challenge it. Write a paper. Do NOT! Do NOT put this in front of all of us. This is not your right," he hollered, grabbing crosses with both hands, yanking them from the ground and throwing them to the side. Campus police tell him to stop but continue to let him commit vandalism.
Babies From Abortions, Records Found in Second Michigan Center Dumpster
Story
Local pro-life advocates in the Detroit area have found the bodies of babies killed in abortions and patient medical records in another Michigan abortion center's dumpster. The finding comes on the hells of one abortion facility that ran afoul of illegal dumping laws and was investigated by the state. "When found these aborted babies in the trash," Miller continued. "They shared what could have been their final resting place with the most despicable waste--the bloody canulas, the bloody surgical paper, bloody gauze and gloves, half-eaten McDonald's food, pop bottles and juice box containers." "This is abortion in America, human beings killed under the law and treated like trash," she concluded.
United Methodist Church Takes Pro-Life Steps to Oppose Abortion
StorY
The United Methodist Church is finally getting some praise from the pro-life community for its recent steps in promoting a pro-life position on abortion. The Protestant denomination has long come under criticism for its involvement in a pro-abortion coalition for religious groups. Conference delegates voted for a resolution to "Respect the sacredness of the life and well-being of the mother and the unborn child," and voted to urge parental notification and consent when a teenager is seeking an abortion. The UMC delegates also voted to promote the work of crisis pregnancy centers and to encourage local churches to get involved in supporting them. And on end-of-life issues, the conference participants affirmed a statement saying the church "rejects euthanasia and pressure upon the dying to end their lives."
Archbishop of Washington DC says politicians’ support for abortion is wrong
Story
The archbishop reiterated Catholic teaching on abortion, saying, “The teaching is clear. Abortion and support for abortion are wrong. No informed Catholic can claim that either action is free of moral implications, and certainly no one should be led to believe, because of someone else's voting record, that this teaching about abortion is uncertain.” The archbishop said Catholics’ political actions must be based on the natural moral law and respect for “the most basic of all human rights,” the right to life.
Poll: Catholics will vote pro-life

Wade Supreme Court opinion, according to a new poll that also reveals Catholics are being prompted by the recent visit of Pope Benedict XVI to vote their life issue opinions. "The overview is this: Sixty-four percent of Catholics say they understand better the church's position on issues now, and 40 percent of Catholics say they are more likely to vote as a result of Benedict's visit," Anderson said.
Mr. Politician: “Is this what you mean by being pro-choice?”
Story
This election season, it’s time for that to change. No matter what politicians or voters or Church officials are or are not going to do, it’s time that we who know what abortion is draw a line in the sand and give candidates and office-holders alike this challenge: If you’re going to take a position on abortion, then you’re going to have to come clean about what it is. We are no longer going to let you obscure or trivialize the issue. Whether people agree with you or not, you owe it to them to be honest about what you’re talking about. Therefore we issue this simple call to honesty: We will describe abortion to you, and you tell us if that’s what you’re talking about.

In a stunning victory for the pro-life movement in Latin America, the Social Security and Family Committee of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies (the lower legislative house) unanimously rejected an abortion decriminalization law that pro-abortion forces have fought for since 1991. The committee members embraced each other in tears while pro-abortion forces in the audience yelled epithets at them and against the Catholic Church, which this year initiated an intense campaign to protect the right to life. The campaign, along with major efforts by Evangelical Protestants, has resulted in a dramatic increase in pro-life sentiment in Brazil. A recent poll found that 68% of Brazilians now oppose further decriminalization of abortion, up from 63% last year.

Darwin, Hitler, and the Culture of Death
Story
Is every neo-Darwinian a racist bent on genocide? No. But as Darwinian thinkers themselves admit, the neo-Darwinian outlook provides a handy foundation for the Culture of Death's rejection of human dignity and thus opens the way for the host of attacks on human life that continue to infect nations across the globe. Thank you, Mr. Stein, for reminding us that ideas have major consequences.
