A Call to Arms

Because of the liberalization of our Country’s gun laws by secularist progressives we are now seeing the “cause and effect” of our follies by not standing tall in the past concerning constitutional issues. We have acquiesced because we fear conflict and what people will think of us for speaking up about political issues.

But now I can acquiesce no more. I can no longer stand by as danger, terrorism, and madmen run amok in a country where criminals no longer fear for their actions. Yes, my friends we are no longer at the top of the food chain. We are dominated by thugs, gangs, and homicidal maniacs and it’s time for action and law enforcement is limited logistically to handle the problem.

As the former sheriff of Johnson County, I ask that my fellow police officers, deputy sheriff’s, state troopers and federal agents either retired or off-duty begin to carry their firearms with them as is prescribed and allowed by law. In 2003, President Bush signed the “Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,” H.R. 218. The law allows interstate authorization for off-duty and retired officers who meet safety criteria to carry firearms across state lines. In addition, I also encourage county sheriff’s to increase, or start if they have not started, reserve deputy programs to help mitigate the increase in crime and violence in this country.

Citizens whom have not taken advantage of both the Kansas and Missouri concealed carry laws should do so with appreciation for their freedom. Together we can act sensibly to protect our community and our families. Law enforcement on occasion can be there when something terrible happens, but this is not the norm. In fact, law enforcement generally cannot protect us from the dregs of society under most circumstances. They will however be able to respond after the incident to work the crime scene professionally.

If we don’t take advantage of our personal freedoms now it may be too late for the next round of victims and the victim’s families. It’s time to embrace our personal protection capabilities not run away from them. It’s time the “bad guys” understand there is a Cause and Effect!
