Olathe Officer violated free speech of Pro-Lifer
Story
An Olathe police sergeant was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday while the department investigates allegations that he violated the free-speech rights of an anti-abortion advocate. Olathe Police Chief Janet Thiessen also apologized to Ronald Brock, who was threatened with arrest Tuesday while driving an Operation Rescue “Truth Truck,” which displays graphic pictures of aborted fetuses in protest of abortion. “Based on what I know at this point in time, I believe we erred in identifying something the officer thought was obscenity but was actually free speech protected by the Constitution,” Thiessen said. “We will be directing our employees (that) there is a fine line between what is considered obscenity and what is considered free speech. In this particular instance, we erred and we deeply regret it, but we are taking steps to correct it.”
Kansas Woman's Story Shows Why Grand Jury Needs Abortion Records for Probe
Story
The story of a Kansas woman who had an abortion at the late-term abortion center run by George Tiller made the spotlight Monday by a pro-life group that says a grand jury investigating him should get abortion records. Armesto-Berge had a coerced, post-viable abortion at Tiller's abortion facility in 2003. While her unborn child was post-viability at the time of the abortion, she never talked to a second physician beforehand as require by state law.

Analysis: Board of Healing Arts criticized for years
Story
Abortion opponents have criticized the board for what they consider lax oversight of abortion doctors since the mid-1990s. Buening became executive director in 1992 and Stafford, general counsel in 1994. Kansans for Life leaders were frustrated in 2001 when a Lawrence doctor was accused of performing an abortion against a patient's wishes. She signed an agreement with the board to change her consent form but otherwise escaped sanctions. In 2005, the board revoked an abortion provider's license over allegations of substandard conditions at his Kansas City, Kan., clinic. The evidence against him included an investigator's report of finding a dead mouse in a hallway. But that was after the board had disciplined him twice in four years over other issues. Also, in 2003, the attorney general had released photos from inside the clinic to legislators. Kansans for Life also had criticized Buening because his wife is Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' constituent services director. Sebelius strongly supports abortion rights.
