Obama; No Gun Shops Within Five Miles of Schools; Porn Shops Okay
Story
Barack Obama proposed a federal law against licensed firearms dealers operating within five miles of a school or park. Obama was also the sole present vote on a bill that easily passed the Senate that would require teaching respect for others in schools. He also voted present on a measure to prohibit sex-related shops from opening near schools or places of worship, which ultimately did not pass the Senate. Why on God's green earth does Barack Obama object to mandates on local authorities for porn shops but not for gun stores? Or conversely, why does he feel it's necessary to keep gun stores five miles from a school, but no limit on porn shops?
McCain takes on Spending
Story
McCain is highlighting his conservative position in opposition of earmarks and government spending. On the stump, he has criticized his Democratic opponents, Sens. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), for individually securing almost $4 million and $100 million, respectively, for pet projects in the fiscal 2008 spending legislation enacted in December. McCain told conservative bloggers on a conference call this week that – if his schedule permits – he would take a break from the campaign trail and vote on an amendment by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) to impose a one-year ban on earmarks.
McCain gets endorsement From Anti-Catholic Pastor
Story
John McCain is refusing to renounce the endorsement of a prominent Texas televangelist who peddles anti-Catholic speech. McCain added that he was "proud" of Pastor John Hagee's spiritual leadership of his congregation at the 17,000-member Cornerstone Church. "However, in no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views," McCain said in the statement. For example, Hagee likes calling the Church "The Great Whore," an "apostate church," the "anti-Christ," and a "false cult system." The Catholic League and Catholics United called on McCain to reject the endorsement. McCain's response to the two days of criticism stood in contrast to his rapid denunciation of a radio talk show host who denigrated Barack Obama, repeatedly using Obama's middle name, Hussein, and calling him a "hack, Chicago-style" politician.

Obama Lying About NAFTA Gate?
Story
When Canada’s CTV television network reported that a representative of the Obama campaign assured Canadian officials that they need not take Obama’s NAFTA threats seriously, that those threats were just political rhetoric intended to win Midwestern primaries. The campaign initially denied everything. “The Canadian ambassador issued a statement saying that the story was absolutely false,” top Obama adviser Susan Rice said “There had been no such contact. There had been no discussions on NAFTA.” Obama himself, asked about the story the next day, said, “It did not happen.” But it turned out that there had been contact, and something did indeed happen. Later news reports identified the Obama adviser as Austan Goolsbee, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago who serves as a senior adviser to the Obama campaign. Those reports said Goolsbee met with officials at the Canadian consulate in Chicago, where the NAFTA discussion allegedly took place.
