Obama’s Nuclear Energy Promise: Let’s Get It Done!
One relatively overlooked aspect of President Obama’s State of the Union address in January was the promise of “building a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants in this country.” The last time the NRC granted an operating license for a nuclear facility was 1996. If it is, then the responsible thing to do is to let it play an increasing role in a future that demands clean, efficient sources of energy. It’s time to build a new power plant. Let’s cut the bureaucracy and get it done!

20. For I say to you, that unless your justice has surpassed that of the scribes and the Pharisees you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.?21. You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You shall not murder; whoever will have murdered shall be liable to judgment.’?22. But I say to you, that anyone who becomes angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment. But whoever will have called his brother, ‘Idiot,’ shall be liable to the council. Then, whoever will have called him, ‘Worthless,’ shall be liable to the fires of Hell.?23. Therefore, if you offer your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you,?24. leave your gift there, before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to your brother, and then you may approach and offer your gift.?25. Be reconciled with your adversary quickly, while you are still on the way with him, lest perhaps the adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you will be thrown in prison.?26. Amen I say to you, that you shall not go forth from there, until you have repaid the last quarter.
Kansas Property Taxes
Wayne Godsey, KMBC President/General Manager
During the past 11 years, Kansas property taxes have increased almost 92 percent. During that same period of time, the increase in inflation was 31 percent.
With property taxes having risen nearly three times the rate of inflation, it is not surprising that several members of the Kansas House have introduced a bill that would require political subdivisions get voter approval for future property tax increases.
What is surprising and very disappointing is that while the bill has 13 co-sponsors in the House, only two of them are from Johnson County. It raises the question of whether some area legislators are more interested in maintaining their cozy relationships with mayors, county commissioners and school board members than in protecting the taxpayers of their districts.
We congratulate the House members who are working to bring Kansas property taxes under control. You should encourage your elected representatives to join them.
