In Defense of Phill Kline
Story
In 2005, Planned Parenthood listed this man as one of "Seven Politicians You Don't Want In Your Bedroom." He has been called an "anti-abortion zealot," and a "crusader." He has been accused of putting his own religious convictions ahead of the rule of law. He has been damned in hundreds of op-eds. He even has a website dedicated solely to denouncing him. His name is Phill Kline, and the Population Research Institute would like to officially rise to his defense.

'Bodies Revealed' inappropriate for field trips, says Archbishop

Local Catholic officials on Tuesday said the “Bodies Revealed” exhibit opening Friday at Union Station is “unseemly and inappropriate” for church school field trips. The joint statement was issued by Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and Bishop Robert W. Finn of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. The Bishops said: “Whatever the merits of ‘Bodies’ as an educational exhibit, and however well-intentioned the exhibit’s creators might be, we believe that the use of human bodies in this way fails to respect the persons involved.”

Cargill suspends $200 million ethanol facility until market changes

Cargill has suspended development of a $200 million ethanol plant near Topeka because of difficult market conditions, a Cargill official said Monday. "The economics are not at a point where we see fit to move forward," Cargill spokesman Bill Brady said. "The economics are not where they were a year and a half ago." He declined to describe the factors contributing to poor market conditions, but an economist told The Capital-Journal last week that escalating grain prices were making it difficult for ethanol plants to make a profit.

The Senate rewarded a Topeka senator's persistence Thursday by passing a bill requiring Kansas public school children to attend kindergarten. The bill would make Kansas parents exempt their children from the requirement if the child was privately educated or if the family had religious objections to participation in public school at the younger age. The Public School, all-day kindergarten initiative was recommended by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
