Mitt drops out

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced Thursday that he is suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. The announcement came during a scheduled speech at the influential Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington where an enthusiastic crowd's cheers turned to boos and shouts of "No, no" as it became clear Romney was indicating his decision to withdraw.

Senate Vote on Abortion Funding

Senator Vitter offered an amendment to stop funding health clinics, Planned Parenthood and other providers of reproductive health services if they use money from nonfederal sources to perform abortions. Kansas Senator’s Roberts and Brownback voted to block abortion funding. Missouri Senator’s Bond and McCaskill voted no to the block abortion funding. Presidential Candidates; Senator’s McCain voted yea and Obama and Clinton did not vote. The amendment was defeated 52-41 with 7 not voted. Abortion Funding will continue.
Ethanol Production Causes Significant Greenhouse Gases

The widespread use of ethanol from corn could result in nearly twice the greenhouse gas emissions as the gasoline it would replace because of expected land-use changes, researchers concluded Thursday. The study challenges the rush to biofuels as a response to global warming. My only beef with ethanol is it isn’t marketable (without subsidy it’s far more expensive than gasoline), but politicians keep trying to shove it down our throats anyway. The global warming aspect doesn’t really impact my opinion one way or another, but it will be interesting to see how this impacts those trying to sell ethanol as some sort of perfectly “clean” fuel.

Toledo’s Democratic Mayor, Carty Finkbeiner, on Friday ordered some 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines from Grand Rapids, Michigan, out of Toledo just before the unit was suppose to start a weekend of urban warfare training. The mayor’s spokesperson Brian Schwartz said, “The mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people. He did not want them practicing and drilling." Perhaps the voters of Toledo should ask the Mayor to leave town.
British NHS will pay surrogates to have babies for gays
Story
Surrogate mothers could be given up to $30,000 of Health Service money to have children for gay couples. Scientists at Newcastle University have applied for permission to turn female bone marrow into sperm, which could remove the need for men to create life. The technology, already pioneered in mice, would allow lesbian couples to have children that were biologically their own. Gay men could follow suit by using the technique to make eggs from their bone marrow.
