Conservative Icon Fr. Richard John Neuhaus Dies
Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, a leading voice of Catholic conservatism in America, and one of those rare theologians and spiritual leaders whose influence vastly exceeded the boundaries of their religious community, has died at 72. A priest of the New York archdiocese and a former Lutheran minister, Neuhaus was best known to society at large as an intellectual guru of what came to be known as the “religious right.” In 2005, Time magazine took the unusual step of including the Catholic Neuhaus on a list of America’s 25 most influential Evangelicals, noting that in a 2004 session with journalists from religious publications, President George W. Bush cited Neuhaus more often than any other living authority. “Father Richard,” the president said then, “helps me articulate these [religious] things.”

Drive-By Media Trust: CNN Airs Fake Gaza Death Story
The story was supposedly that a freelance journalist in Gaza returned home to find his younger brother dead, the victim of a missile attack on a residential rooftop from an unmanned IDF drone. The video shows the supposed scene of the attack, and follows the Gaza family from the hospital to the burial, after a heroic attempt by doctors to revive the young child. Only, when you look at the supposedly heroic effort, it lacks one thing: any sense that the two doctors are actually performing CPR with any effort at all. They stop as though they’ve scripted out the moment. A little more investigation determined that one of the doctors in the video is notorious terrorist apologist Mads Gilbert. The older brother, meanwhile, is no mere “free-lance cameraman” but the owner of a business that hosts Internet web sites for Hamas. In other words, this looks an awful attempt at propaganda that only a “professional” media outlet with a pre-existing animus to Israel would put on the air without any checking of sources. CNN has pulled the video from its rotation and its web site, without any explanation or retraction.

Obama Tied to Richardson Pay-to-Play Corruption Case

Obama CIA Pick has no Intelligence Experience
President-elect Barack Obama has chosen former Clinton White House chief of staff Leon Panetta to run the CIA. Panetta was a surprise pick for the post, with no experience in the intelligence world.

Democrat Senator Furious Over Obama CIA Pick
Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is reportedly fuming that Barack Obama picked Leon Panetta as his new CIA Director and never consulted with her. Feinstein, the incoming chairwoman of the Senate intelligence committee, issued a sharp statement Monday that was a thinly veiled criticism of the pick. It made it clear that she head expected a career intelligence professional – unlike Panetta, who has no intelligence expertise whatsoever – to be leading the CIA. "I was not informed about the selection of Leon Panetta to be the CIA Director,’’ Feinstein said. “I know nothing about this, other than what I've read,' said Senator Feinstein, who will chair the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in the 111th Congress. "My position has consistently been that I believe the Agency is best-served by having an intelligence professional in charge at this time.'"

Obama Surgeon General Pick: “Mothers should abort disabled children”
Barack Obama appears to be expanding on the steady stream of abortion advocates he is appointing to top administration posts. His latest choice will be pro-abortion CNN medical reporter Sanjay Gupta as the next Surgeon General. Gupta has supported abortions for disabled unborn children, opposed protections for pro-life medical professionals, and denied the risks associated with the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug. Gupta has said that mothers should consider an abortion when confronted with a disabled unborn child. Gupta's position in favor of ‘weeding out the 'unfit' otherwise inconvenient, a practice once known as eugenics.

Constitutional Chaos: Senate’s Only Black Member Denied Entry from Dems
Roland Burris was denied entry to the U.S. Senate Tuesday morning, when the Secretary of the Senate said his credentials were not in order. Burris, who introduced himself as the "junior Senator from the State of Illinois," told reporters outside the Capitol in Washington: "I presented my credentials to the Secretary of the Senate and was advised that my credentials are not are in order, and I will not be accepted, and will not be seated, and will not be permitted on the floor." Burris was legally appointed to fill Barack Obama’s seat at prescribed by the US Constitution.

Coleman Files Lawsuit Regarding Recount
Republican Norm Coleman filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging Democrat Al Franken's apparent recount victory in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race, delaying a resolution of the contest for weeks or months. Coleman indicated that numerous double counts were made during the re-count and that more votes were counted than registered voters.

Pay to Play #3: Colorado Governor Appoints Obama Fundraiser to US Senate
Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet, the man tapped to replace Colorado US Sen. Ken Salazar, is a mystery to many voters -- but not to President-elect Obama, who received a $4,600 political contribution from him. Bennet was Gov. Bill Ritter's surprise choice to replace Salazar, who was nominated by Obama to be interior secretary. Bennet, a Democrat, is relatively unknown outside Denver and has never held elected office before. But he's known Obama for almost two years, first meeting the president-elect in March 2007 at a Denver fund-raiser. "Michael Bennet was an early and ardent supporter of president-elect Barack Obama," said Matt Chandler, Bennet's spokesman. Chandler was also spokesman for Obama's Colorado campaign.

Liberal Congress to Silence Opposition
House Republicans say they are ready to work with Democrats for “genuine solutions” to America’s problems. But Republicans will find it more difficult to advance their solutions, now that Democrats have passed new rules curbing Republican clout. The rule changes passed Tuesday, on the first day of the 111th Congress, are “designed to silence” Republicans, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said. “The new rules repeal term limits for committee chairman, consolidate power in the hands of a few, and attempt to silence Republican input on key policy debates, in addition to making a mockery of the Democratic leaders' promises of presiding over an open Congress,” Blunt said in a news release.

Porn Industry wants Bailout Money!
But only in America, and only during this period when we’ve taken a leave of our national senses in the belief that there’s a tooth fairy and her name is “Paulson,” would we see materialize what no one could possibly have predicted: the porn industry wants a bailout, too. Porn King Larry Flynt is leading a porn business group asking for $5 Billion from the Government.

Chicago Schools Spend $67K on Cappuccino Machines
The Chicago public school superintendent that has been picked by Obama to lead Department of Education skirted competitive bidding rules to buy 30 cappuccino/espresso machines for $67,000, with most of the machines going unused because the schools they were ordered for had not asked for them, according to a report by the CPS Office of Inspector General.

Global Warming Update: Sea Ice same as 1979
Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close. In May, concerns over disappearing sea ice led the U.S. to officially list the polar bear a threatened species, over objections from experts who claimed the animal's numbers were increasing.

Michael Yon Update – What Happened to America while I was gone?
While the U.S. Immigration officer rifled through my friend from Thailand’s belongings, she sat quietly. She was afraid of this man, who eventually pushed a keyboard to her and coerced her into giving up the password to her e-mail address. The officer read through her e-mails that were addressed to me, and mine to her. She would tell me later that she sat quietly, but “Inside I was crying.” She had been so excited to finally visit America. America, the only country ever to coerce her at the border! This is against everything I know about winning and losing the subtle wars. This is against everything I love about the United States. We are not supposed to behave like this. She would tell me later that she thought she would be arrested if she did not give the password. The Government of the United States was reading the private e-mails of a U.S. citizen (me). The Department of “Homeland Security” was at work, intimidating visitors with legitimate visas. They had at least 24 hours to check her out before she landed in the United States. What kind of security is this? The Department of Homeland Security was at this moment more like the Department of Intimidation. Michael Yon has been an embedded reporter with the troops in the Middle East since 2003.

Obama FDA Pick Oversaw RU-486 Approval
If anyone had any question about whether Barack Obama would promote the increase or reduction of abortions as president, the abortion advocates he's named to top administration posts confirm his agenda. Now, Obama appears likely to select the FDA chief who oversaw the abortion drug for a second stint. Jane Henney is a professor at the University of Cincinnati who was the head of the Food and Drug administration in the final years of the Clinton administration. As far as abortion is concerned, her main claim to fame is that she oversaw the last-minute approval of the dangerous abortion drug RU 486.

Dead Baby Thrown Out with Trash
Police are searching garbage dumps in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for the body of a baby that was apparently thrown out with the trash at Jersey City's Christ Hospital. Hospital spokeswoman Barbara Davy said the baby was stillborn on Dec. 21 and the body was placed in the hospital morgue. The body was gone when a funeral home employee came to pick it up on Jan. 2. The baby's mother said he was born alive and died after doctors worked to stabilize him for 20 minutes. Kalynn Moore's attorney, Michael Anise, said a nurse cleaned up the baby, dressed him in a hat and blanket and gave the baby to the mom to hold.

Freedom of Speech: Conservative Coulter Replaced by Lesbian Maddow
In a last minute replacement for the NBC banned Ann Coulter, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow appeared on Tuesday's "Today" show to drop invective about the Bush administration's "torture" policies. Instead of the rousing bit of Barack Obama bashing and criticism of the fawning coverage of him by the liberal media that would've surely been delivered by Coulter. "Today" viewers were treated to the following slam of Bush policies via Maddow. Coulter was scheduled to be on NBC to discuss her new bestseller but was later banned for life from NBC executives due to her anti-Obama stance.

"We need to recognize that it's an extraordinary, challenging time," Shulman said in an interview. "We need to understand the taxpayers' perspective. We need to walk a mile in their shoes."

George Tiller Hearing Vindicates Phill Kline on Abortion, Media Owe Him Apology
Tiller Attorney Dan Monnat's question to Carter likely hurt Tiller's case. Which hinges on discrediting Kline in order to persuade the court to suppress evidence against Tiller that was gathered by Kline when he was the attorney general. Instead, it showed that Kline is in fact a man of integrity and honesty that does not deserve the harsh treatment in the press that he still endures today. That is certainly something, given his obvious disdain for Kline, that will cause Monnat to rue the question. Linda Carter's brave testimony leaves little doubt. It's time that the Eagle and the Star to release their misguided vendetta that has led to years of what amounts to character assassination against Kline. They should, for the sake of what is decent, follow Joyce Morrison's example and apologize to both Summerlin and Kline.

Brownback Files for Governor
The 2010 race for governor got energized Monday as U.S. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., opened up his gubernatorial campaign committee for fund-raising business. “Today, I have taken the first step that will allow me to run for governor,” Brownback said in a statement. “I will continue to work hard during the coming year in the Senate to find solutions to the serious issues facing our state and the nation and focus on efforts to create jobs at home and grow our Kansas economy.”

Law Partner of Kansas Dem Party Chair appointed to Supreme Court
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius appointed a law partner of the Kansas Democratic Party's chairman Wednesday to the state Supreme Court. The new justice, Dan Biles, 56 of Shawnee, is best known for his work for state agencies. Biles represented the State Board of Education in a 1999 lawsuit that eventually forced the state to phase in an $892 million increase in school funding over the past four years. Republicans were watching the Democratic governor's decision closely because of Biles' ties to Democratic Chairman Larry Gates. They've been law partners since 1985. The Kansas Republican Party issued a statement Wednesday calling Biles' appointment an example of "severe partisanship and cronyism." Sebelius has now appointed four of the seven Supreme Court justices.

A Kansas state senator wants to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
A Kansas state senator wants to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Republican Senator Tim Huelskamp explains that Planned Parenthood has been under criminal investigation for nearly a year now, and they've found probable cause to have committed 107 misdemeanor and felony counts in our state. Planned Parenthood gets many millions of federal tax dollars and makes a sizeable profit, even though it is a nonprofit organization. "It makes no sense that hundreds of thousands of pro-life Kansans have to fork over more than $550,000 to this organization," he adds. "That's the amount we've discovered." Huelskamp is submitting a bill to the Kansas legislature to de-fund the abortion provider. "I think it's time to stop subsidizing the actions of an organization that operates under a cloud of suspicion and scandal," he concludes.

Senator Introduces Big Brother Speeding Bill
State Sen. David Haley wants motorists on the Kansas Turnpike to pay every time they venture over the speed limit, not just rare instances when they are caught by law enforcement. The Democrat from Wyandotte County, a regular on Interstate 70 from Kansas City, Kan., to Topeka during the legislative session, introduced a bill that would allow the Kansas Turnpike Authority to charge tolls based on the speed traveled by a driver.

Attack of the Killer JOCO Coyotes – Police Considering Options
Overland Park is grappling with what to do about the predatory animal after the death of a small Cockapoo named Dakota. The report is the first the city has gotten in months about troublesome coyotes, police spokesman Jim Weaver said. The city does not think small children are at risk, but Weaver recommends being watchful of youngsters. The city is looking at its options to deal with the coyote. “We want to do what we can to protect people’s property,” Weaver said. “This is something we need to look at, see what the possibilities are, what types of things can be done. But removing them is probably the only way to handle them.” The city is considering whether it should do the removing. An Overland Park animal control officer searched the area Monday and found many coyote droppings between the house and the creek about a quarter mile away, police said.

So what have we learned in 2 millennia?
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero - 55 BC

From Proverbs 15:19
“A wise son makes his father glad, but a fool of a man despises his mother.”

Gospel according to Luke 4:14-22

14: And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and a report concerning him went out through all the surrounding country.
15: And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
16: And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the sabbath day. And he stood up to read;
17: and there was given to him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
18: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19: to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
20: And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21: And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
22: And all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"

Triangle Tax - TA(N)X for NUTTIN’

This week Fort Dodge Animal Health announced its plan to postpone “indefinitely” its corporate headquarters move to the Kansas Bioscience Park in Olathe.

Did you miss that little tidbit in the mainstream media?

Kelly Goss, a Fort Dodge spokeswoman, said Monday in an e-mail that the economic environment had changed “dramatically” since the company announced the project more than a year ago, which contributed to the delay. Goss said the company had not yet determined a future timeline for the $40 million project.

Fort Dodge, a division of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, announced it would move its Overland Park headquarters to Olathe in November 2007. The project included constructing a 150,000 square-foot facility, staffed by 200 employees on 30 acres donated by the Kansas Bioscience Authority.

Another company, XenoTech, LLC, backed away from a deal to locate at the park about six months after saying it would. The in-vitro research firm had said it would invest nearly $10 million to build a 54,000 square-foot facility that would triple the size of its existing Lenexa location. But the deal was put on the back burner when it engaged in talks to be acquired by another company.

Did you miss that little tidbit in the mainstream media?

When it was first announced, officials said they expected the park to generate $150 million in public and private investment and create 3,000 jobs during the next 20 to 30 years. Prior to the fall election, Kansas City Business Journal reporter, Michael Braude, penned the following:

“Area residents will reap huge benefits from “The Triangle.” These include new jobs, new businesses in animal health and pharmaceuticals, and a marked improvement in the quality of life in the region. It is estimated that The Triangle will mean more than a billion dollars in economic impact during the next two decades. The biggest benefit will be that a safer, smarter, healthier metropolitan area will evolve.”

Politicians in Johnson County hailed the tax passage as the greatest single event in Johnson County business history and that a wealth of businesses will flock to our county to reap the bounty. Conservatives, like me, who were against the tax, were hissed and booed like Dudley Doright nemesis, Snidely Whiplash, as he tied up Neil Fenwick at the railroad tracks. But the tax passed and Johnson County self-appointed leaders, like Sun Publisher, Steve Rose, looked down upon us and grinned from his perch like the Grinch awaiting the plunder to be in Whoville.

The reality is that tax-funded financing of business projects results in the business having no vested interest or commitment to the project. Why is this? Because they have not invested their own money into the equation! Now that the economy is bad we can really see the fruits of our miss-labor.

Tax-funded projects across the Kansas City area and in Johnson County in particular, are seeing this lack of commitment. Will the businesses come back? I hope so someday. I don’t revel in the waste of taxpayers hard earned money. The old adage holds true however. If it is a good business investment then the business and business investors will fund the project.

But then again why should businesses buy the milk when you can get it for free? Or at least at the taxpayer’s expense, which is the same as free to “Tax and Spend” politicians.

In the meantime, I will be patiently waiting for my Triangle Tax refund, but I’m not sure whom to contact to ask about it. It is the County Commissioners who passed the buck and have no authority? Or, do I contact the unelected Bio-Science Commission that doesn’t have to listen to my complaints?
