The city of Wichita is negotiating with two adult entertainment businesses to close in response to a new zoning law that takes effect today. The law, approved by the City Council in 2005, restricts adult entertainment businesses to industrially or commercially zoned areas, such as those along far East and far West Kellogg, sections of 21st Street and a few other small pockets of the city.

Governor would be well advised to restrict her comments to next A.G.
Story
Governor Sebelius recently commended Morrison for his professional accomplishments while attorney general. At the same time, she couldn't resist taking a swipe at Morrison's predecessor, Phill Kline. And as far as Kline is concerned — we sometimes wonder how far the Democratic Party will go in attempting to discredit the Republican former attorney general. The complaint, remember, alleges that Morrison tried to influence pending litigation, implying witness tampering. If even a shred of that claim turns out to be true, the governor would be well advised to take cover. And the Democratic power brokers didn't know? At best, they appeared to be clueless. At worst, it appears they chose to turn their heads.

Author publishes his letters from Iraq
Story
Every week during a yearlong deployment in Iraq with the Kansas Army National Guard, Lt. Col. Roger Aeschliman sent e-mails shooting across the globe to about 50 people at first and then to more than a 100 people — who in turn sent his updates to hundreds more. And as he got ready to return home in November 2006, Aeschliman began thinking about putting all of his weekly updates and more personal e-mails together into a book. Unable to find a publisher, Aeschliman did something else not readily available in years past. He self published "Victory Denied." His views and politics — Aeschliman worked for the Kansas Republican Party and in state government appointed jobs after a six-year stint as a Capital-Journal reporter — show through clearly. The book, "Victory Denied," is available for purchase at www.authorhouse.com.

Complaints filed against Morrison
Story
Operation Rescue leaders said Wednesday that they had filed complaints with two state agencies regarding outgoing Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison. The first complaint from the anti-abortion group asks the Kansas Ethics Commission to investigate whether Morrison received campaign contributions from abortion provider George Tiller of Wichita and Planned Parenthood — or groups connected to them — in exchange for protecting them from prosecution. The second asks the Office of the Disciplinary Administrator to investigate whether Morrison violated the ethical code of conduct for lawyers.
